TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City North Stars are Boston bound.
After a 7-0 win Saturday night at Centre ICE that concluded a two-game sweep of the Alpena Flyers in the USP3HL Midwest Division playoffs, the North Stars will be one of two teams representing the division next weekend at the USPHL National Championships.
The other semifinal Saturday saw the Motor City Hawks down the Decatur Blaze to knot that series 1-all with a deciding Game 3 on Sunday.
Saturday night in Traverse City, Austin Flores went for five points on three goals and two assists, while Brendan Lacharite stopped all 25 shots he faced for the shutout in goal.
"We played good today," North Stars coach Jacek Wilk said. "Our puck movement was OK and the team worked hard."
Parker Hebden added a goal and an assist and co-captain Howie Rose, Barrett Bishop and Ben Yaakoby picked up single goals. Bobby Price added two assists as well.
"Tonight, we kept our momentum from last night and didn't take a shift off," Yaakoby said. "For Boston, it's going to be really tough against some really good teams, so we need to continue to work hard every shift all game and avoid making mistakes."
"We all worked hard and moved the puck well, which led to goals," added co-captain Nate Madigan. "In Boston, we're expecting to see some good teams and some really close games."
Alpena goalie Matthew Brunton finished with 27 saves in suffering the defeat.
The North Stars open the round robin portion of the national tournament at the New England Sports Center with a 10:40 a.m. game on Wednesday against a team TBD. Traverse City then plays the Charlotte Rush that night at 7:50 p.m. before closing out the round robin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. against the Florida Jr. Blades.
