More Rink Lighting Improvements Made Possible Through Cherryland Electric Rebates, Capital Credit

Centre Ice Arena, with support from Cherryland Electric, has taken another step in improving the arena's energy conservation, further enhancing I.C.E.'s commitment to green energy. All light fixtures in the arena's lower level, including locker rooms and offices and totaling approximately 900 bulbs, will be replaced. All existing 32-watt fluorescent bulbs will be changed to 15-watt L.E.D. bulbs. In addition, all locker rooms and offices will have automatic light sensors added; when the rooms are not in use, the lights will be off. According to Terry Marchand, I.C.E. Executive Director, "This project will bring Centre Ice substantial energy savings and, of course, financial savings. The incredible aspect is that the entire project is completely funded through Cherryland Electric's energy rebates and use of our accumulated capital credit! Our next energy savings project, slated for Spring 2018, will be to change all bulbs on the arena's upper level."

Many thanks to Cherryland Electric for helping Centre Ice become more energy efficient!

Physical Therapy Can Help Resolve Back Pain

Lower back pain is a common complaint in young athletes. A recent study suggests that as many as two-thirds of all adolescent athletes have back pain stemming from common injuries. The prevalence of lower back pain correlates with sports participation and individual competition.

Adolescent athletes with lower back pain should receive a thorough diagnostic work-up and adapt their training and technique as indicated.

The Spine Team at Munson Community Health Center Physical Therapy uses evidence based therapy to quickly, accurately, and confidently evaluate you and your pain," said Jamie Bush, DPT, Cert. MDT. "We also educate you on powerful self-management principles to get you back into the game as soon as possible.  No sugar, no fluff - just great results."

Common Back Injuries:
  • Back muscle and ligament sprains and strains - You usually know exactly when this injury happens. Initial pronounced and constant pain turns to intermittent pain over time.
  • Joint obstruction - This can happen during athletic play or as the result of repetitive or sustained low forces over time; characterized by constant or intermittent pain that may not improve over time. Loss of motion is almost always present.
  • Spondylolisthesis - This occurs when one vertebra slides forward over the vertebra below it. Some sports can overuse back bones to the point of causing stress fractures in vertebrae, allowing this slippage to happen.

When to Seek Physical Therapy
  • If symptoms are not fully resolved within 72 hours
  • Any presence of weakness, numbness and tingling
  • Any referral of pain below the buttock
  • Any bowel/bladder changes
  • Pelvic numbness and tingling or sudden and progressive loss of strength in limbs should seek immediate medical attention
  • Any previous episodes of back pain, as this suggests a recurrent imbalance that needs to be addressed

What Physical Therapy Can Do
  • Accurately assess the true cause of back pain onset
  • Accurately determine the most appropriate form of exercise for the fastest recovery
  • Educate in most effective self-management program and exercises
  • Educate in prevention of further episodes
  • Restore any imbalances of muscle strength or flexibility to return the athlete back to sports quicker and more adequately prepared for healthy athletic play
  • Fully reduce and resolve symptoms and any joint obstructions
