USAID celebrate its 55th anniversary this year. Through the decades, one constant has been the generous spirit of the American people. The development work of USAID and its partners show that everyone benefits when every man, woman and child has the opportunity to live with dignity and reach their full potential.

Our table is full with the many people we have supported on a pathway out of poverty. Like Lula from El Salvador, who grew her eco-friendly jewelry business with support from USAID and now employs 120 workers. Or, Taroni of Bangladesh, who increased his rice yield by 18 percent after learning about new farming techniques through Feed the Future. Or, Najlae and Rajae, two sisters from Morocco who are training to be mechanics with support from USAID.

Thank you for sharing the stories of our work around the world with your family, friends and colleagues.
Standing up for safe schools

Every student should have a safe space to learn and this year’s #16Days Campaign urges support for efforts to ensure that girls and boys enjoy access to education free from gender-based violence. You can learn more about USAID’s work to reduce gender‐based violence, child marriage and trafficking in persons here.

In the new FrontLines ...

USAID’s work around the world is changing lives. Click on the latest FrontLines to meet a few of these people, including a model farmer in Mozambique, a Nepali scientist protecting wildlife and preventing disease and entrepreneurs from Solomon Islands who are transforming “honey money” into economic empowerment. Sanitation matters on World Toilet Day and every day!

It’s true, 1 of 3 people around the world don’t have access to a toilet. Without access to sanitation services, illnesses like childhood diarrhea are common and girls are more likely to skip school when they’re on their periods. Fortunately, USAID and partners have helped 4.3 million people gain access to sanitation services since 2014 through water, sanitation and hygiene projects

USAID and the military accomplish more together

Did you know that USAID senior foreign service officers are embedded at military headquarters around the globe? Development and security go hand-in-hand and our agencies have shared staff and information to protect American interests and promote peace since 1961. See how our teams collaborated to support Haitians after Hurricane Matthew in a recent photo story.

Finding friendship despite their differences

Peacebuilding is a common theme in much of the work we do to build democratic and resilient societies around the globe. It takes courage to embrace what you don’t know, but the story of unlikely friends like Robi and Bassam highlight the possibilities that exist when people find common ground. Visit the USAID Storytelling Hub for new stories about incredible people who find threads of humanity to make the world a better place.
