One Step Closer to Tamar's Freedom

"I encourage anyone who has the ability to convince Aharon Friedman to give a
get should do so as soon as possible so as to free Tamar from her status as an agunah."

-Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, shlit"a

Dear ORA Supporter,

A seruv (order of contempt) against Aharon Friedman has just been made public.  We are now one step closer to attaining Tamar's freedom.  ORA has been working on the Epstein/Friedman case for well over a year.  After many months of behind-the-scenes work, the seruv is now in place, stating unambiguously that Aharon's continued refusal to issue an immediate and unconditional get is a violation of Jewish law and is abusive.

We have just sent a letter to Aharon making it clear that we will mobilize all of our resources to demonstrate to him that his behavior is disgraceful, and that we, as a community, will not tolerate his continued abuse of Tamar.

We need your full support to protest Aharon's abusive behavior and to enable ORA to continue our advocacy efforts on behalf of Tamar and the 70 other agunot whom we are currently assisting.  B"H, we have just reached yet another milestone in our case resolution history by closing the file of our 165th agunah case since our founding in 2002.  Please contribute to this year's Rosh Hashana Appeal.

Tamar has been waiting for a get since March 2008.  Three and a half years have gone by while she waits in limbo, chained in a dead marriage to an abusive individual.  We hope and pray that in 5772 we will see the end to Tamar's suffering.  Please be as generous as possible in supporting our work on behalf of Tamar and other agunot in Jewish communities throughout the world.

Thank you so much in advance for your generous support, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, sweet, and successful New Year.

Ketiva ve-chatima tova,

About ORA
The Organization for the Resolution of Agunot (ORA), is a not-for-profit organization which assists divorcing couples in effectuating a timely Jewish divorce in accordance with the highest standards of Jewish law.  ORA strives to eliminate the infliction of abuse within the Jewish divorce process.  We work to ensure that a get (writ of divorce) is issued unconditionally and in a timely fashion by amicably facilitating the divorce process whenever possible, and advocating against the abuse which is perpetrated through get-refusal when necessary.

ORA operates under the halakhic guidance of Rav Hershel Schachter, rosh yeshiva at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University.

ORA is a registered 501c(3), so all donations are tax-deductible.
