Connections  |  November 2016
Every Woman's Place for Support, Connections and Community.
We Have 697 Reasons
to Be Thankful for Our Volunteers

Did you know that all of the programs at the Women's Centre are supported by over 697 active volunteers? Together, we supported the 6,700 women who came to the Centre in 2015 looking for basic needs, a space to connect with others in the community and to discuss the social issues affecting women in our city.

To all of our volunteers, thank you for dedicating your time and incredible talent towards supporting the women in our community! We collected stories and interviews from past and present volunteers of the Women's Centre to share with you, because they know the impact of their work the best. We'll be releasing one each week to read for your enjoyment!

Environmental Issues
We are in the process of developing an environmental program at the Women's Centre and need your help! Please take 2 minutes to fill out this survey and tell us what issues around the environment are most important to you. What tools do you need to create change in your community? What does a healthy environment look like to you?

Scholarships for Women
Status of Women Alberta is now accepting applications for the Person's Case Scholarship. This award is given to women who are studying subjects or have careers where women are underrepresented. Please pass this along to anyone you know who qualifies for this award!

Colonization and Intergenerational Trauma

In this Social Issues workshop, we will discuss the effects of colonization on Aboriginal women today, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its symptoms. Join us for a conversation about how complex trauma inflicted on Aboriginal communities is continued, and learn about intervention strategies including the use of self care.
The Women's Centre is piloting a child minding service for this workshop. Volunteers will be available to care for children over 19 months. If you're interested in bringing your child(ren) with you, please call 403-264-1155 to RSVP.
