Hawker NT Commentary
THE POOR MAN'S COMMENTARY
A Reformed Classic Commentary on the Entire Bible
by Robert Hawker
with Intro by Joel Beeke

"Robert Hawker's Poor Man's Commentary edifies believers by providing spiritual comments on each section of Scripture. The prayerful 'reflections' section that follows Hawker's comments on each chapter of Scripture marvelously enhances this devotional character. For the genuine Christian, here is devotional writing at its best: warmly Christ-centered, eminently practical, personally searching. I commend it highly for private and family worship." - C. H. Spurgeon: Commenting on Commentaries.

THE GOSPEL for THE PEOPLE

Sixty Short Sermons

by Charles H. Spurgeon

Selected by Thomas Spurgeon

This is likely the most difficult Spurgeon title to find.

We have the only copy listed on the Internet!!

"Spurgeon was the consummate preacher and his sermons were mightily used of God in converting sinners and blessing his people. His sermons are the most reprinted and read in history, and justly so. This collection, selected by his son Thomas, will be a valuable addition to any family's library." - Dr. Robert P. Martin, Pastor, Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church, Seattle, WA, and author of A Guide to the Puritans

"Spurgeon was anointed by the Holy Spirit with such an extraordinary anointing that he was always a fountain of life in opening up the Scripture. He loved the Puritans and dug gold galore out of their writings." - Erroll Hulse, Pastor and Author of numerous books

"Something 'new' by Spurgeon. What else do you need to know? And Spurgeon on the gospel? That should seal the deal for anyone. Sometimes it is difficult to get people who are skeptical of the Reformed faith to read someone of whom they might be suspect due to ignorant associations. "By MacArthur? By Sproul? I've heard that they believe______." But no one is doubtful about Spurgeon. They will get the biblical gospel, and Spurgeon is a name people trust. Don't miss the opportunity to obtain this scarce volume." - Dr. Don Kistler, founder of Northampton Press

"Whenever there is a way to get Charles Spurgeon's writing into the hands of more people there is great reason to rejoice. The treasure that Solid Ground Christian Books is making available is one that Christians everywhere will want to own for themselves and get for others. I have heard of people who read a Spurgeon sermon each morning during their private worship. While a wonderful practice, that task would be daunting to many people. However, 'The Gospel for the People' is just right for such a discipline. Imagine reading a Spurgeon sermon for the next 60 days and taking a summary of that sermon and using for family worship each evening! Well, no need to imagine; just order 'The Gospel for the People' today and you will have such a tool." - Ray Rhodes is a well-known conference speaker and is the author of numerous books including a Family Worship series produced by Solid Ground Christian Books

Jacobus Commentary Series
NOTES ON THE GOSPELS AND ACTS
by Melancthon Jacobus

Charles Hodge, William Henry Green, J.W. Alexander and others from Princeton Seminary said, "The excellent Commentaries of Dr. Melancthon Jacobus have deservedly attained a high reputation, and their wide circulation proves how well they are adapted to the wants of both ministers and laymen. They present, in a brief compass, the results of extensive erudition, abound in judicious exposition and pertinent illustration, and are, moreover, distinguished by doctrinal soundness, evangelical character, and an eminently devout spirtit."

"Jacobus is sound and plain, and is therefore a safe guide to Sunday-School teachers and others who need to see the results of learning without the display of it." - C.H. Spurgeon

"This work is characterized by solid learning, sound doctrine, and lucid statements, a pleasant style, and the most serious spirit of piety. It is much needed."-  William S. Plumer

"I consider that I would be doing service to the cause of pure religion, scriptural theology, and saving piety, could I contribute to the introduction of Professor Jacobus' Notes into the families, Sabbath Schools, and Bible Classes of our land." - Thomas Smyth

"Jacobus writes in the popular style of Albert Barnes, and is solidly Reformed. Some commentators make you plow an acre to find a single nugget; but not Jacobus. His exegetical notes are concise but meaty, with rich veins of practical exposition." -Dr. Robert P. Martin

About the Qur'an

by James R. White

"This book is magnificant!

I believe this is the most thorough and comprehensive book

written by an evangelical scholar on the Qur'an."

Abdul Saleeb, coauthor of "Answering Islam"

and "The Dark Side of Islam"

Qur'an by JRW

In a world where nearly 25% of its people adhere to Islam, it's critical that Christians have a basic understanding of what their neighbors believe. In this accessible guide, apologist White uses the Qur'an as the primary source text to explain Islamic beliefs about Christ, salvation, the Trinity, the afterlife, and other imporant topics. 240 pages, softcover from Bethany.

A Look Inside the Sacred Book of One of the World's Fastest-Growing Religions What used to be an exotic religion of people halfway around the world is now the belief system of people living across the street. Through fair, contextual use of the Qur'an as the primary source text, apologist James R. White presents Islamic beliefs about Christ, salvation, the Trinity, the afterlife, and other important topics. White shows how the sacred text of Islam differs from the teachings of the Bible in order to help Christians engage in open, honest discussions with Muslims.

James R. White is the author of several acclaimed books, including The God Who Justifies and The Forgotten Trinity. The director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, a Christian apologetics organization, he is an accomplished and respected debater and an elder of the Phoenix Reformed Baptist Church. James also blogs at the Alpha and Omega Ministries site www.aomin.org. He and his family live in Phoenix, Arizona.

A TIMELY BOOK ON BIBLICAL CREATION

Creation in Biblical Perspective
by Richard Barcellos

SGCB PRICE $12.50

                                 Better than the Beginning

            BETTER THAN THE BEGINNING
Creation in Biblical Perspective
by Richard Barcellos

"Creation is controversial, and truly we need to defend biblical doctrine concerning the origin of all things. Yet sometimes in the midst of controversy we can lose sight of the purpose of creation itself. Richard Barcellos uses the creation of the world like a great telescope to look up at the beauty of the Creator. His book focuses our attention on the triune God in Christ. He draws his doctrine from a careful exposition of the Bible, applies it to our practical lives, and calls us to sing the praises of Him who is worthy, 'for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created' (Rev. 4:11). This is an edifying book, and I hope that many will read it." - Joel R. Beeke, Ph.D.

"Although many Christians have been engaged in a life-or-death battle to defend the truth of creation against evolutionary attacks coming from inside and outside the church, there has been little exploration of the doctrine of creation in all its glorious height, depth, width, and length. Richard Barcellos has begun to remedy this neglect with a God-glorifying, soul-edifying, life-transforming survey of this majestic and practical subject." - David P. Murray, Ph.D.

"Christ brings the creation train derailed by Adam to its original glorious destination! This insight is vital to an understanding of the gospel and the vital, scriptural distinction between the law and the gospel. May God give this volume great usefulness!" - Samuel E. Waldron, Ph.D.

A BRIEF SAMPLE -

The Arrow Driven Deeper

Finding it impossible, on account of the number, to have much conversation with each individual at the inquiry meeting, I at one time abandoned the practice of conversation for a few weeks, and addressed them all together. I found this was unacceptable, and concluded, therefore, to return to the former custom. It was on one of those evenings, when about seventy persons were present, and I was passing rapidly from one to another, that I came to an individual who had never been there before. Said I: "What is the state of your feelings on the subject of your salvation?" "I feel," said he, "that I have a very wicked heart." "It is a great deal more wicked than you think it," said I; and immediately left him, and addressed myself to the next person.

I thought no more of it till a few days afterwards, when he came to me with a new song in his mouth. He had found peace with God, as he thought, through faith in Jesus Christ. Said he: "I want to tell you how much good you did me. When I told you that I had a very wicked heart, and you answered that it was a great deal more wicked than I thought, and then said nothing more to me, I thought it a most cruel thing. I expected something different. I thought you would say more, and my soul was wonderfully cast down. Idid not believe you. I was angry at your treatment. I thought you did not care whether I was ever saved or not; and I did not believe you knew anything about my feelings. But the words rung in my ears, "A great deal more wicked than you think." I could not get rid of them. They were in my mind the last thing when I went to sleep, and the first when I woke. And then I would be vexed at you for not saying something else. But that was the thing which drove me to Christ. I now know it was just what I needed. I thought, when I went to that meeting, my convictions were very deep. But I have found out they were very slight. You hit my case exactly. If you had talked to me, my burden would have been diminished. But you fastened one idea on my mind. You drove the arrow deeper, when I expected you to do just the contrary; and I could find no relief till I gave up all into the hands of Christ. I know you read my heart exactly."

COMMENDATIONS -
"I have never read anything quite like A Pastor's Sketches and I really think that if God is pleased to bring days of great revival again, no Christian book could be more helpful at such a time to pastors than Spencer's book. A book of great relevance to pastors, it will be cherished just as much by all those spiritual minded men and women in our churches who do the bulk of the work of bringing the gospel lovingly, courageously and wisely to those around them. I really believe its impact could be revolutionary."
- David Vaughn, missionary in France

"A Pastor's Sketches is a sobering and challenging reminder that the Holy Spirit is the true agent of conversion. This book is urgently needed today when so much of our evangelism is patterned after current marketing methods. It has deeply convicted me to always seek to be in tune with the Holy Spirit as I minister to others."  - Jerry Bridges, author

HITLER AND THE NAZI DARWINIAN WORLDVIEW

How the Nazi eugenic crusade for a superior race

Hitler and the Nazi
HITLER AND THE NAZI DARWINIAN WORLDVIEW

This book takes a fresh look at Germany's most influential Nazi leaders, examining their backgrounds, education and convictions. It provides compelling evidence that the rising influence of Darwinism, eugenics and race theory in early-twentieth century society set the foundation for the Nazi pursuit of engineering a German "master race"-and exterminating European Jews, Gypsies, Blacks, most Slavs and the Christian religion in the ensuing madness of the Holocaust of World War II. The effect of social Darwinism, eugenics and anti-Semitism, and their relative acceptance in the scientific and medical communities of Germany and many other countries worldwide, opened the door to mass murder, medical experimentation and military conquest. This title examines the roots of Nazi ideology and unmasks the Darwinian "survival of the fittest" theory behind it.

ONE REVIEW -
This scholarly work is very detailed, and profusely referenced. It approaches the subject from both a topical and a biographical perspective. The latter, besides of course Hitler, includes details on the thoughts of Mengele, Bormann, Himmler, Goebbels, Goering, Heydrich, Rosenberg, and Streicher.

Although, as Bergman is well aware, eugenics existed in many nations, it was only in Germany that it was taken so seriously, and put into practice to such revolting extremes. This becomes obvious from reading this work. Many respectable German doctors and scientists practiced Darwinian eugenics. This includes Konrad Lorenz, whose past was evidently conveniently forgotten when he later won the Nobel Prize in 1973.

One striking feature of the biographies is the fact that many of the top Nazis grew up as devout Christians, but abandoned Christianity very decisively after going to college and learning Darwin. After that, it was very easy to imbibe Nazi ideology and the personality cult of Hitler. Darwinism was not some kind of abstract academic matter remembered from biology class: It was a central, constantly-referenced, ongoing practical issue in the animation of Nazi policies and actions.

Nazi statements that were apparently friendly to Christianity were for public consumption. One fact that can be clarified is the matter of Nazis retaining membership in the church. In a private conversation with Hitler, Goebbels complained that the Fuhrer would not let him quit the church. Goebbels resented the fact that he had to pay taxes to support the church, and both Goebbels and Hitler referred to Christian doctrine as "humbug" and "rubbish".

This work is not limited to the victim-hood of the Jews. It also discusses the genocidal fate of the Slavs and other peoples.

Bergman's research is of value to historians of biology, racism, Darwinism, the Third Reich, WWII, and the Holocaust. The nonprofessional can learn a thing or two to correct his or her misconceptions about Nazism.

Dr. Bergman's education and background:
Dr. Bergman has taught biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry, anthropology, geology, and microbiology at Northwest State College in Archbold, Ohio, for over 25 years. He has also taught at the Medical College of Ohio, the University of Toledo, and Bowling Green State University.

He has nine degrees, seven of them graduate or post-graduate, from such schools as the Medical College of Ohio, Wayne State University in Detroit, The University of Toledo, and Bowling Green State University. He has over 800 publications appearing in 12 languages, as well as 20 books and monographs on topics ranging from mental health and religious discrimination to vestigial organs, psychology and religious cults. He has also contributed to dozens of textbooks and has presented over 100 scientific papers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

PHD Washer Quote

ENDORSEMENT - Paul David Washer & Scott Brown -"With the Puritan Hard Drive I can now carry one of the largest Puritan and Reformed libraries in my pocket. The Puritan Hard Drive is a tremendous blessing. Imagine not only owning the largest Puritan and Reformed library, but having a full-time team of world-class research assistants at your beck and call. With the click of a button, you can easily do ten hours worth of research in just seconds! In the history of extra-biblical study and research tools there has never before been a resource as useful as the Puritan Hard Drive." - Pastor Paul Washer, Founder and Director of HeartCry Missionary Society

"Still Waters Revival Books has performed an astonishing feat in pulling together a massive collection of books and other resources. Let me tell you how absolutely fantastic the Puritan Hard Drive really is. This is a treasure trove for a local church pastor. The search ability is beyond my expectation. I was just on the island of Iona where Columba established a missionary outpost sending evangelists all over Britain. Searching the hard drive for "Columba" added much to my understanding of this great leader through the eyes of Spurgeon and many others. Thank you so much... for going to the trouble to make this available. I am greatly improved by it and I anticipate the pace of worldwide reformation to be improved as well." - Pastor Scott Brown (M.Div.), Hope Baptist Church (NC, USA), Director of the National Center for Family Integrated Churches (NCFIC), Conference Speaker, Author (Family Reformation: The Legacy of Sola Scriptura in Calvin's Geneva, Building a God Centered Family: A Father's Manual [ed.], an others), etc.
