The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Carlsbad for its fiscal year 2017-18 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Changes Coming for Process to Get Appointed to City Boards, Commissions and Committees 
The Carlsbad City Council discussed changes to its process for appointing members to its boards, commissions and committees, following a trial period to test changes approved in February.

Ride Together with Waze Carpool
Make the most of your commute on the I-5 with Waze carpool through Aug. 1. The Caltrans and Build NCC team and SANDAG iCommute have partnered with Waze Carpool to offer $2 flat rates for carpoolers traveling to or from one of these areas . Drivers will be compensated up to $15 per ride.

Citizens of the Year Honored for Outstanding Service
Longtime Carlsbad volunteers Yvonne Murchison Finocchiaro and Scott White have been named Carlsbad Citizens of the Year for 2018. The annual award recognizes community members who have dedicated themselves to improving Carlsbad through outstanding service. 

Summer Traffic Safety Campaign Targets Beach Areas
The City of Carlsbad Police Department has launched a summer traffic safety campaign along Carlsbad Boulevard to help ensure residents and visitors alike can enjoy Carlsbad’s coastline safely. Speeding tickets in Carlsbad start at a fine of $241 and can go up from there, depending on the circumstances.

Cool off at Aloha Plunge at Alga Norte Aquatic Center, 7/20
The City of Carlsbad’s Aloha Plunge will take place this year on Saturday, July 20, at Alga Norte Aquatic Center. Enjoy fun, island themed pool games and activities, giant inflatables and key logs and more. End the night with a special Polynesian dance performance where the audience can learn the hula.

Carlsbad Police Bike Rodeo Teaches Kids Skills and Safety, 7/27
The City of Carlsbad’s Police Department will offer a free bike rodeo for kids ages 5 to 8 years on Saturday, July 27. The event will take place at the Safety Training Center at 5750 Orion St from 10 a.m. to noon. 


Fitness Room Grand Reopening
On Monday, July 1, the Carlsbad Senior Center reopened its doors to its to the newly remodeled and upgraded Fitness Room. Members can now experience a state of the art center with cardio equipment, circuit training and free weights in a safe, positive and welcoming environment for seniors over the age of 50. 

Take Village H South Online Survey Ends 7/28
A community meeting was held on June 29 to gather input on the future use of Village H South from community members. An online survey is now available for those who couldn’t make the meeting or just prefer to provide input online. City staff will present the options they develop with the community for the City Council’s consideration in fall 2019.  

Homelessness Response Plan Expanded
With the start of the City of Carlsbad's new fiscal year July 1, additional resources are now available to address issues related to homelessness. The City Council approved the following increases to support the city's Homeless Response Plan, which takes a compassionate enforcement approach.

Make it a Summer to Remember
Looking for a way for your child to stay active, make new friends, learn a new skill or just have a blast? Get them off their screens and signed up for summer camp. This year’s lineup includes sports, art, aquatics, specialty and science camps and other programs for kids 3 to 16. 

Teen Talent Shows, July and August
Carlsbad City Library is hosting its annual Teen Talent Shows this summer at Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Participation is free and all participants earn rewards. This year the first-place winners of the shows are invited to perform during the preshow before the Aug. 16 performance at  TGIF Concerts in the Parks .

Save the Date, State of the City Event, 8/26
Carlsbad residents are invited to a free showing of the 2019 State of the City video presentation, highlighting key projects and initiatives, city priorities and future planning. Immediately following the video presentation, there will be an opportunity to talk to City Council members and staff and ask questions about city topics, current and future projects.
