Ellis and co-workers investigated the efficacy of intranasal (modified-live) and injectable (acellular) Bordetella bronchiseptica (Bb) vaccines in stimulating anamnestic anti-Bb antibody responses in seropositive previously vaccinated dogs. Both types of vaccine induced anamnestic systemic and mucosal antibody responses that have been associated with disease sparing in Bordetella infections, suggesting that they are both suitable as booster vaccines.
