Look for an article on page 247  of the March 2017 issue of The CVJ titled,  "Prospective case-control study of toe tip necrosis syndrome (TTNS) in western Canadian feedlot cattle."

A case-control study on potential risk factors for toe tip necrosis syndrome (TTNS) in western Canadian feedlot cattle determined that sole thickness in the apical white line region was thinner in cases than controls, and claws from cases were 5.0 and 7.3 times more likely than those of controls to yield heavy growth of Escherichia coli and Trueperella pyogenes, respectively. The researchers conclude that TTNS appears to be initiated by excessive wear along the white line, leading to separation and bacterial colonization of P3 and associated soft tissues.
