Bill Hamid is Pumped - Are You?
A Tale of Supporters' Culture

One of the highlights of the 2013 season already occurred and it is directly tied into very recent D.C. United history. For those who were not in attendance at the Kickoff Luncheon at the Hamilton Live to witness our goalkeeper receive his new scarf, let's just say it was an emotional moment for both fans and player.

We told just some of the story on camera about how we have a special relationship with the players on this team and the story of this scarf is emblematic of this unique bond in American professional sports.

For those of you who have not followed the "They Can't Hold Us Back" saga, it all began last year when Bill was filmed showing his emotion in unique fashion after having been ejected against the hated RBNY, only to have the team rally to win and send the fans into stratospheric demonstrations of glee.

The phrase quickly became a rallying cry for the Black & Red fanbase, not to mention an internet meme. #TCHUB flooded the twitterverse and beyond. With each hurdle that the team had to overcome on the field, the chants rang out from the stands showing how We Are United as a club.

It all culminated in a massive display of tifo put together by the supporters on the loud side that gave venerable RFK the feel of the San Siro! During the off-season the busy little SE elves were plotting a surprise for Bill. A scarf that commemorates what is now the zeitgeist of the club and allows fans to adorn themselves with it.

Anyone can purchase them for $20 by sending a note to Kevin McGeehan at [email protected] with the proceeds going to support United for D.C., our favorite charity that does such great work in the community.

Can We Top This?

Well, the bar has certainly been raised and the home opener is just days away and we want to put on another show that will shake RFK to the rafters.

In order to pull this tifo off, we desperately need folks who can to come to RFK on Saturday at noon to help set up. No experience necessary! We'll need as many hands as possible getting the giant tifo properly together in the stands.

Please drop a note directly to our Game Day Operations Director, Paul Sotoudeh at [email protected] if you can lend a hand or two. He will be working on getting the folks who come early access to parking.

Travel Advisory!

Third match of the season.

The Battle for the Atlantic Cup begins and the buses are filling and you can join in a chance to make history (again)!

The sight of snow falling makes us all wistful at the memories of last year's storybook tale at Red Bull Arena.

Jimi is busy filling the March 16th St. Paddy's Day Roadtrip to RBNY.

Drop him a note at [email protected] to jump aboard the buses!

Kudos to Aprile Pritchet and Kat Cheshire for running such a spectacular Kickoff Luncheon this year!

All the players were gracious with their time and special thanks to John Thorrington, James Riley and Kyle Porter for keeping our members enthralled with their insights at the tables.

We really want to thank those that were able to attend the event. It was great to see so many new faces come out for the first time to help United for D.C.

For those unable to attend, you can get a sense of what it is all about through this wonderful video presentation.

Our Hearts are With You

There is no easy way to share this tragic news in our tight-knit community.

We were so excited to see lifetime member James Lambert at the luncheon. He has not only been such an important figure in the tremendous growth in our club, but a great guy willing to chip in to help whenever called upon.

He had just recently stepped down from our Executive Committee as Membership Director to concentrate all his energies on preparations to open his new Sophie's Cuban Cuisine restaurant.

Sadly, we were shocked to learn that his father died of a heart attack yesterday morning! Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Lambert family during these very difficult days.

We know so many of you will want to reach out and offer your condolences. We will have more information at the tailgate.
