O.P.E.N. for Business Conference
O.P.E.N. = Opportunity. Preparation. Entrepreneurship. Networking

SAFE in response to recent legislative changes and the current economic crisis is offering a free conference that focuses on micro-entrepreneurship specifically for survivors of domestic violence.  O.P.E.N. for Business Conference was created to assist survivors of domestic violence in creating a business for themselves that can generate income to supplement their earnings while exploring entrepreneurship as a means towards gaining self-sufficiency.

 

O.P.E.N. for Business Conference for survivors of domestic violence will feature free lunch, giveaways, entrepreneurship focused workshops, community resources and health screening from Sinai-Grace Hospital

 

This event will be held:  

 

Saturday, October 22th 

8 am until 4 pm

Detroit, Michigan

 

This is a free event for survivors of domestic violence.

 

For participant confidentiality, location information will only be given to registered attendees

Candlelight Vigil

"From Victim to Victor: Silence in not an Option"

Wayne State University School of Social Work Alumni Association, Candlelight VigilWalden University, Delta Sigma Theta Detroit Foundation Inc., and local Detroit domestic violence agencies, Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE) and Serenity Services, are coming together to hold a Candlelight Vigil in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.   

 

October 21 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the Delta Sigma Theta Detroit Foundation Inc., 24760 West Seven Mile, Detroit, MI

 

This vigil will raise community awareness of domestic violence and to provide domestic violence related community resources to community residents.

Women's Independence Scholarship Program
Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment can assist active participants of SAFE's programs process their application forms for consideration of Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP). 

About the scholarship:

The Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) was created in 1999 to help formerly battered women overcome barriers to the education necessary for their becoming employable and financially stable.

 

SAFE is looking forward to assisting survivors of domestic violence obtain their goal of achieving a secondary education.  SAFE will also assist other programs learn more about the program and assist their participants with WISPcompleting the forms.
