"I hope to bring out the best in the youths of Nigeria by starting a Club right here."  John Ibirogba Alimosha, Nigeria

This was the second request in a month to provide assistance for the development of a new Optimist Club in Nigeria. The first request is a new Club forming in the capital, Lagos. The requests were just two of more than 80 international contacts made this past month.

The requests from Nigeria were the only ones not to come from the Optimist International Boot h in the exhibition hall for the Junior Chamber International World Congress held in Quebec City, Quebec. Guests to the booth, like a man from Turkey, saw video presentations concerning the Optimist Junior Golf Tournament, the Optimist International World Oratorical Championships and clips from the Reel Optimism video competition.

Jacques Pelland, the Director of the Canadian Service Center, had the opportunity to meet with JCI International President Paschal Dike and President-Elect Dawn Hetzel. The booth provided an opportunity for JCI members to learn more about Optimist International and consider establishing a Club in their country.  The follow up with those contacts continue.
Club Optimist Maroc, Casablanca Hosts Supply Drive
The monthly spotlight this month falls on the Club Optimist Maroc, Casablanca which organized in May of this year.   The Club Members organized a school supply drive this fall for some of the children in the area. Back packs, supplies and stuffed animals were donated at the drive.

"Most of the school children live in rural areas and are from poor sections of the country," said President Abderrazaq Mihamou.  "We are also looking for sponsors for school transportation since the students are traveling by truck."
