(Thursday Evenings - Sponsoring Wolf Hollow in July)  
Join island visitors and residents to share music, spoken word, and other performances on the night when we come together in that ancient ritual of community and communion. The Café is open from 5:00 - 10:00 pm and Open Mic begins at 7:30 pm. Come out and support Wolf Hollow! The Orcas Island Farmers Market is open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays. All Items sold in the market are grown or crafted by Orcas Island farmers and artisans. The market includes produce, much of it organic, crafts, art, jewelry, clothing, pottery, food and drink vendors, and some of Orcas Island's service organizations (historical museum, master gardeners).

THE 6th ANNUAL ORCAS ISLAND CIDER & MEAD FESTIVAL
(Saturday, July 23, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm on the Village Green)
Twenty of your favorite (and some new) Northwest hard cider and mead producers will be offering tastes from up to 70 varieties of ciders and meads to visitors in our big white tasting tent next to the Farmers Market. Those over 21 will be admitted for just $10 that includes admission, tastes and a commemorative tasting glass. A huge cider garden and wonderful music by the Dustbunnies; and singer/songwriter from Seattle, Isaiah Dominguez will round out a perfect summer Day!   At around 2:00 pm, the OI Home Brew Competition will take place. Bring your brew!!

"LORD OF THE RINGS": ANCIENT OAK DENDROCHRONOLOGY WITH DR. DAVID JORDAN
(Sunday, July 24, 9:00 - 11:30 am at Turtleback Mountain Preserve)
Dr. David Jordon studies forests, particularly the Garry Oak (Quercus garryana) forests that occur from Southern Vancouver Island to Northern California. He uses the analysis of tree rings not only to age old growth oaks but also to reconstruct a time-line of events that have impacted their long lives.
Walking with David among the oak forest areas of Turtleback Mountain Preserve will provide an opportunity to learn about the science of dendrochronology, the natural history of our local oak woodlands, and the status of the Land Bank's oak woodland restoration project. Easy to moderate walking with some elevation gain. Close-toed shoes recommended.
This event is presented by San Juan County Land Bank, is free to the public, and does not require pre-registration.

CALTECH PHYSICIST BARRY BARISH TO SPEAK ON "GRAVITY'S MUSIC": Einstein, Black Holes and Cosmic Chirps
(Sunday, July 24, 5:00 pm @ Orcas Center)
On Sunday, July 24, Caltech Professor of Physics Barry Barish will recount this spectacular scientific discovery in an Orcas Currents lecture titled "Gravity's Music: Einstein, Black Holes and Cosmic Chirps." Open to the public, it will begin at 5:00 pm in Orcas Center. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
Barry Barish, a leader of the international LIGO experiment that has recently detected gravity waves, will deliver a lecture on this mind-bending - and space-time-rippling - discovery, which was predicted 100 years ago by Albert Einstein and is likely to be rated as the scientific discovery of the decade.

ROSARIO MUSIC CONCERT AND HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
(Tuesdays - Saturdays at 4:00 pm at Rosario) 
Enjoy a presentation of music and photography that walks guests through the history of the Moran family and the Rosario estate with Christopher Peacock. Highlights of the presentation include the historic Moran Photograph Collection, Phantom of the Opera music performed on the Mansion's 1,972 pipe Aeolian organ with the silent film, stories of the Mansion's most colorful residents, and Christopher's original piano compositions played on the 1900 Steinway Grand Piano.

SING IN AN ORCAS ISLAND GOSPEL CHOIR
(Rehearsal: Friday, July 29 & Saturday, July 30, 4:00 pm; Performance: Saturday, July 30, 7:00 pm @ the Orcas Island Community Church)
All Island singers are invited to come take part in a weekend gospel choir on July 29 and 30 under the direction of gospel/jazz vocalist, composer, conductor and pianist Stephen Newby. Gospel music is music of the spirit. It transcends religion and speaks to our soul. This summer as part of SummerFest, Newby will lead a Gospel Choir, and all Orcas Island singers are invited to join.
We'll rehearse Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 at 4:00 pm and perform Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Please call the Community Church office to sign up (360-376-6422) so we know how many to prepare for.
Dr. Stephen Newby is a composer, conductor, gospel/jazz vocalist, and pianist.  Be part of the fun! Sing with us!

EASTSOUND FLY-IN & ANTIQUE CAR SHOW & PANCAKE BREAKFAST
(Friday, August 5 - Sunday, August 7, all day event)
Admission: Free
The annual Old Fashioned Fly-In is fun for the whole family! Each year 100-150 aircraft attend the Orcas Fly-In from around the country. Come enjoy the best of general aviation! Warbirds, experimentals, old-fashioned airplanes, local pilots and seaplanes, aircraft, plus flying demonstrations.
There will be a Pancake Breakfast both days at the Fire Hall from 7:00 - 11:00 am.
Also enjoy the Orcas Road Classics car club's most widely known event is the Annual Car Show hosted during the first weekend of August in conjunction with the Fly-In. This year the club has decided to give back to the community and has teamed up with the local Food Bank by accepting cans of food and cash donations for this cause. Car entrants to the show are asked to donate food for the Food Bank and/or $10 as an entrance fee to help this local charity.

YMCA Camp Orkila would like to invite you to come out and take a ride on our 1000-ft Zip Line and climb our 55-foot climbing wall.  We will be holding by-appointment Community Zip Day on Saturday, July 30.  We will have zip times available from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. 
Being prompt is important so, please, plan to arrive at camp 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Please, enter through the main entrance on Mount Baker Road and follow signs to the designated parking areas.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S SPOOKY TALES

"We ain't afraid of no ghosts!"  You might be after you attend the Historical Society's Spooky Tales - Ghost Stories With an Orcas Spin. You will hear hair-raising stories, told by Master Storyteller, Antoinette Botsford.
Pioneer Museum: Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm.  Crow Valley School Museum: Friday nights at 5:00 pm . Tickets are $10 for adults, $5.00 for children under 13, and $25 for a family of four. OIEF One Arm Challenge The Orcas Island Education Foundation (OIEF) is launching a new fundraising campaign: the ONE ARM TIED BEHIND YOUR BACK challenge. Public Education is under-funded in Washington State. Our schools are not failing, but they are tasked to educate children with one-arm tied behind their backs.

ORCAS ECSTATIC DANCE 
(Tuesdays, 7:30 - 9:00 pm @ Odd Fellows Hall)
Ecstatic Dance is a worldwide movement with gatherings in many communities and countries. Orcas Ecstatic Dance is open to locals and visitors alike. Facilitators create play lists to inspire. Individuals meet to experience the joy of movement. Ecstatic Dance is a drug and alcohol free event. Please, arrive by 7:30 pm and plan to stay until 9:00 pm as the music is choreographed to build and subside, creating a total experience.  Picture and video taking is discouraged as is talking during the dance.

Local instructors are again offering their community dance class on Monday Aug 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Hall. We will offer another session of Waltz. We will review previous steps and add new ones. Instruction will begin promptly at 7:00 pm followed by dancing at 8:00 pm.  The classes are free and no partner in needed.
Learn to dance which is good for your health, well being and ability to relate to others. Come out and enjoy yourself while learning or improving your knowledge of dance.

Island Robotics is starting a robotics club at the Funhouse! Orcas Island High School student, Sandy Rost, will be running the program. Kids, ages 9-14, are invited to join! Adults with robotics experience or interest are invited to participate and help out. Join the fun and learn STEM related skills. This club will participate in regional qualifying competitions next spring.

Come to THE GALLERY in Uptown Eastsound to enjoy an exciting and varied NEW SHOW of original art work including figurative, still life and landscape paintings, some serene and some a bit edgy, and now including innovative photography. It is a stunning collection of work by local artists.

ISLANDERS BANK JULY EXHIBIT 
Stop in to the bank Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm during July to see Anita Leigh Holladay's photographs. The exhibit is titled "New, Old & Ancient: Images of Ireland and Scotland." From over 2000 photos from a spring trip, she chose the ten that convey her best impression of these countries.

THIS MONTH'S ARTIST AT WASHINGTON FEDERAL : QUILTS BY JEANNIE HOFFMAN & MAGGIE KAPLAN

Washington Federals Artist of the Month for July is a collaborative effort in quilting. Join us Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, to enjoy quilts made by both Jeannie Hoffman and Maggie Kaplan. The art show is open to the public and will be on display through the end of the month. You truly do not want to miss these vibrant colors, or the craftsmanship involved in the making of these unique pieces. 


THE LAMBIEL (ART) MUSEUM

The Pioneer Museum is open Tuesday through Saturdays, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sundays, 12:00 pm-3:00 pm
The Crow Valley School Museum is open Friday and Saturdays, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Museum office is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.

The WINGS OVER ORCAS ISLAND exhibit features stories and memorabilia from local and national aviation legends.

NEW SCULPTURE GARDEN AT ARTWORKS 
The Orcas Island Artworks presents works by BJ Arnold, Dave Haslett, Todd Spalti and Pete Welty in our brand new sculpture garden on the porch and west lawn. The Artworks is Orcas Island's cooperative gallery, featuring over 45 island artists and craftspeople. Open daily 10:00 - 5:00 pm in Olga.
