CLIMATE MONOLOGUES @ ORCAS CENTER

haron Abreu brings to life onstage the stories of real people in the U.S. and around the world already impacted by the effects of climate change and people working to meet and transcend this major global challenge. Their stories are communicated through their own words and through original songs that complement the stories.
Sharon Abreu will offer a workshop to empower people to use their voices, literally and figuratively. Workshop is on Center Stage from 5:30 to 6:30 and is free for ticket holders for "Climate Monologues."

GREAT ISLANDS CLEAN-UP ON EARTH DAY

It is time for the 2017 Great Islands Clean-Up, the annual county-wide greening event where volunteers collect litter from public beaches and roadways.

1st ANNUAL 'SAFE ON THE ROCKS 5K'
(Saturday, April 22, 8:00 pm, Orcas Athletics)
Join SAFE San Juans for our 1st annual SAFE on the Rocks 5k in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month! This twilight fun run will feature glow sticks, glow paint, a post-race party with music, food, raffle lottery tickets, family-friendly activities, and much more! Even if you want to walk the route or just come for the festivities starting at 8:00 pm, SAFE on the Rocks will have something fun for everyone.
Races kick off at 8:00 pm, with race staging starting at 7:00 pm and the post-race family fun at 8:30 pm! Race entry is $25. All racers will receive a t-shirt, completion medal, and other cool giveaways!
Headlamps are required for participation and will be available for rent for a minimum donation of $5.00, if you do not have your own.

ORCAS ADVENTURES: BILL YARLOTT YOUTH DERBY

Orcas Adventures is starting our season with opening day of fishing season! Last year we acquired the "Bill Yarlott Youth Derby" from The Friends of Moran which is a free event for children under the age of 15 to get out on the water and enjoy the outdoors and hopefully, catch a fish. EARTHDAY 'OPEN HOUSE' @ ORCASONG FARM!

In honor of the 47th International Earth Day, please join us to celebrate our inaugural 'Open House' of the season! Come learn about our 2017 CSA program and peruse our upcoming workshop and events schedule.The day will include a local key note speaker, garden tours, hands on mini-workshops & farm projects galore. We will also have a "Earth Day Open Mic", activist table, the famous Earth Ball, and tasty treats by donation! All-ages, family friendly. This is a free collaborative event, but donations and volunteer support is gladly welcomed!

CAMP ORKILA "ROAR"

Our Kids Spring ROAR is a Rogue Obstacle Adventure Race that combines the elements of
mud, water, color and obstacles
- including a cargo net crawl and at least one massive mud pit! Camp staff and volunteers will monitor the 1.5 mile course. Stick around after the race for camp tours, games and refreshments. This is a f
amily event for kids ages 5-17.* Parents are welcome to join in on the fun at no additional cost.
*Kids ages 5-7 must be accompanied on the course by an adult.

Anna Netrebko
reprises one of her most acclaimed roles as Tatiana, the naïve heroine of Tchaikovsky's opera, adapted from Pushkin's classic novel. Dmitri Hvorostovsky stars as the title character, who rejects Tatiana's love until it's too late. Robin Ticciati, Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera, conducts the revival of Deborah Warner's staging, which opened the Met's 2013-14 season. Alexey Dolgov sings the role of Onegin's friend-turned-rival, Lenski, with Elena Maximova as Tatiana's sister Olga and Stefan Kocán as Prince Gremin.

DOE BAY SPONSORED MUSHROOM FORAY
(Monday, April 24, 1:30 PM @ Moran State Park)
Mycologist-author Lawrence Millman will lead a mushroom foray at Moran State Park. Please meet at the gate to the Park at 1:30pm. Also note that the walk will be ecological in other words, it will focus not on edibles, but on the role of particular mushroom species in their respective habitats. $10 donation requested.

DARVILL'S BOOK SIGNING
(Tuesday, April 25, 4 - 5 pm @ Darvill's Book Store)
Lawrence Millman will join us for an informal talk and to sign copies of his books. Millman is the author of 16 books, including A Kayak Full of Ghosts, Last Places, Lost in the Arctic, Hiking to Siberia, and - most recently - At the End of the World: A True Story of Murder in the Arctic. He was written for Smithsonian, National Geographic, Atlantic Monthly, Outside, and Islands, among other magazines. He is a Fellow of the Explorers Club and an unrepentant neo-Luddite. He keeps a post office box in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

DÉJÀ VU CLASSICS @ ORCAS CENTER

After successive runs of The Nocturnes and Musical Manifestos, the Island Inspiration All-Star Dance Collective is back again with another dazzling, dancing extravaganza. The Deja Vu Classics artfully melds Classical Ballet and Classical Jazz Dance into a wild, whirling and whimsical tapestry of fun family entertainment. Joining the All-Stars in this production are the Shooting Stars from The Little Dance Concert of December led by Tiffany Loney. In this collaboration amongst the Stars, beauty bridges the generation gaps to formulate two wondrous nights to remember.

SCHOOL BOND - NEXT STEPS

Speaker: Superintendent of Schools, Eric Webb, speaking on how the school district will move forward with a new school bond. This special event is open to the public to engage in this important community topic.

This annual rummage sale is one of the largest fundraisers of the year. The Orcas Senior Center is surely one of our most vital organizations and with our senior population growing fast we need your help to keep thriving!
The Betty Lundeen Room will be filled with kitchen ware, items for bath and bedroom, sporting goods, pet accessories, games, toys, tools and baskets. Yard and garden items will be displayed in the court yard outside and our halls will be filled with furniture. Crafting supplies including linens for quilting and sewing projects as well as bedroom linens will be displayed in the Conference Room. The estates of at least 3 of our close friends will make this years' event one to be remembered. The "Better Room" will hold valued collectibles, jewelry and accessories.

Enjoy yourself with live entertainment and delicious local cuisine while our host Mark Padbury inspires us to support our local Early Education Program. Here's a sneak preview of some of the auction items featured this year: a grand live edge island grown maple table, made by one of our very own local woodworkers. undreds of organic vegetable starts and perennials, lovingly grown and nurtured by San Juan County Master Gardeners, will be on sale in time for Mother's Day! Look for tomatoes, squashes, cucumbers, and peppers - all returning favorites!
Perennials include groundcovers, flowers, ornamental grasses, small shrubs, and wonderfully unique accent plants.
All proceeds from the sale are used to support Master Gardener Program projects such as the Demonstration Garden, where 1,000 pounds of produce were grown for the Food Bank last year.

STATE PARK ANNOUNCES FREE DAY IN APRIL

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to celebrate Spring and Earth Day with two free days at state parks in April. On free days, visitors don't need a Discover Pass for day-use visits by vehicle.
Saturday, April 22, is in honor of Earth Day.

STATE PARK: MOUNTAIN LAKE CLOSURE
Mountain Lake at Moran State Park will be closed through Sunday, May 14. Vehicles will be restricted from entering the Mountain Lake Day Use Area and campground from Mount Constitution Road. The Mount Constitution road shoulder will not be available for parking, and the boat launch will also be closed. The tower at Mount Constitution is also under construction and will be closed to the public.

Workshops are entitled "How Satisfied are you with your Family Conversations?" They are free for parents, grandparents, relatives and any family member over 11.
Free childcare is available at the Montessori School during the session from 5:15-7:15. If you will be using the childcare, you must RSVP to the school one week in advance.
