Deer Harbor Inn 
We will be serving a Traditional 4-Course Thanksgiving Dinner for $35. Open Thanksgiving Day, 4:00 - 7:00 pm Reservations: 360-376-1040.
 
Doe Bay Cafe
We will be serving a 4 course family style thanksgiving feast with an available wine pairing. There will be two  seating's, one at 3:00 pm and one at 6:00 pm. The cost is $60 per person before tax(8.1%) and gratuity(20%). Bringing the final total to $76.86 per person. Reservations: 360-376-2291.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church
Emmanuel Episcopal Church will hold a Community Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner at 5:00 pm. Please call the church for information on what to bring at 360-376-2352.

Inn at Ship Bay 
We will be serving a multi-course dinner with several choices for each course. Dinner Reservations begin at 3:00 pm this year and our last Dinner Reservation will be at 6:30 pm. WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY @ ORCAS CENTER

This comedic and fantastical play comes to life with local performers, including Christopher Evans as Willy Wonka and Anwyn Thompson as Charlie Bucket. The story follows young Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe as they join a small group of contest winners who get to tour the magical and mysterious factory of eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka. Directed by Didier Gincig, features an all-island cast. The Funhouse Commons is thrilled to be a recipient of proceeds from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Tickets: $12, $10 students.

MOVIE OF THE WEEK: BATTLE OF THE SEXES 
(Friday - Saturday, November 17-18, 7:30 pm @ Sea View Theater, 234 A St.) 
The 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs became the most watched televised sports event of all time. Trapped in the media glare, King and Riggs were on opposites sides of a binary argument, but off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles.  With her husband urgi ng her to fight for equal pay, the private King was also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, while Riggs gambled his legacy and reputation in a bid to relive the glories of his past.  PG-13

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNERS

The Odd Fellows will be holding their traditional Community Thanksgiving  Dinner. W e are partnering with the Episcopal Church to  ensure no one is turned away.  There will be a Thanksgiving Dinner at the Church  beginning at 5:00 pm.  Anyone who cannot join the Odd  Fellows are encouraged to attend the dinner at the Episcopal Church.  The Odd Fellows request that those attending bring the following suggested potluck  contributions based on the beginning letter of your last name:  A - H Dessert,       I - L Salad,  M - Z Your favorite side dish.  Reservations can be made if your group is 6 or more.

COMMUNITY DODGEBALL

It's almost here - the third best day of the year -- Community Dodgeball!  The Orcas Island Education Foundation and Orcas Park and Rec invite the whole community to an evening of Dodgeball at the High School Gym. Holiday attire STRONGLY encouraged - there will be a PRIZE for the most festive outfit.  An above average bakesale will take place in the concessions stand. $5 suggested donation, all proceeds go to OIEF.  Bring the Relatives!  Bonus points if you bring a college student/islander home for the holiday!

THE OLGA SYMPHONY...MORE OR LESS
(Friday-Saturday, November 24-25, 7:30 pm @ Orcas Center)
This Thanksgiving weekend, the Olga Symphony returns to Orcas Center for two nights of music, fun, and fancy clothes. Melinda, Gordon, JP and Anita will be playing all your favorite non-symphonic Olga Symphony works on guitar, bass, fiddle, ukulele, banjo, dobro, saw, shaker, and, of course, voice. The Symphony will be joined by 3 very special guests this year -Tom Rawson, Mandy Troxel, and Mel Urbanozo. Proceeds from the concert and CD sales will be donated to local charities. Tickets are still only $5.

THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL

Orcas Center presents the New York Met's new production of Adès's The Exterminating Angel.  Join us for the Met, complete with wines offered by the Doe Bay Wine Company. Come and see what the Huffington Post declares: "A spectacular American premiere of one of the most anticipated openings of a new opera in years." A CELTIC CHRISTMAS

Come enjoy an evening of music with Jeff Johnson, Brian Dunning, Wendy Goodwin and Eric Miller. Jeff Johnson & Brian Dunning: The American/Irish duo's music has become a mainstay in the Contemporary Celtic music genre. Wendy Goodwin:  Wendy joined the trio in 2009 bringing a rich versatility and creative presence honed from many years as a performer and session player in the Pacific Northwest.  Eric Miller: Guitarist and singer, songwriter Eric Miller's own music combines genres in a totally re-freshing way, taking American Folk and blending it with the subtleties of Rock, Country, and Blues. He was a wonderful addition to last year's tour and we're delighted to have him join us again.  Donations appreciated.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY TEA

This is the 56 th  year that the Friends of the Library have thanked our Orcas community for their support and participation with a Holiday Tea.  We'll have tea and coffee in silver services, holiday punch, and homemade savories and sweets. Also live music by local musicians, plus a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at 1:00 pm. 
Care to participate on another level?  We would love to have a plate of your cookies and/or crustless sandwiches to add to the others on the table. Just let the Library know, do your baking and bring the results to the Library on the day of the Tea.

GRAND OPENING WEEKEND AT THE EXCHANGE 
(Friday- Sunday, November 24-25 , 10:00 am @ 3398 Orcas Rd)
The new Exchange reuse facility on Orcas Island will re-open November 24, 'Black Friday'.  This will kick-off a Grand-Opening Weekend, that will run through Sunday. Hot dogs and cider will be served at lunch, and The Exchange will be offering a junk-craft workshop for kids.  While everyone involved with the new Exchange is excited about the opening, everyone also shares a common concern: The expected tidal wave of materials the community wants to donate. Therefore, r eservations will be required for all drop-offs through the end of 2017. The Exchange's reservation calendar is on their website:  exchangeorcas.org .

FIRST TOWN HALL MEETING-PUBLIC HOSPITAL DISTRICT 
(Thursday, November 30, 5:30-7:00 pm @Eastsound Fire Station) 
The Coalition for Orcas Health Care (COHC) wants to hear from as many folks in the community as possible.  Toward that goal, it has planned four Town Hall-style meetings over the next few months to hold a community conversation about the proposed Public Hospital District.  The first two meetings will be to share general information, the third to provide information about Public Hospital Districts and how they work.  The fourth will allow commissioner candidates to make their case before the public. Please participate in the Department of Community Development's online survey regarding the Comprehensive Plan Vision Statement. Community input is vital to ensure that the Vision Statement reflects the aspirations of all county residents. (Tuesday, November 21,  10:00  a m - 12:00 pm @ Orcas Library)
This class will focus on forming good online habits which includes how to easily manage all those darn passwords. Learn how to create secure passwords and get tips on how to organize them.  We will also discuss what to avoid online, how to spot security issues you may run across and how to secure yourself and your family from attacks.  Malicious Software that tries to steel your computer and data, known as Malware, is on the rise. We will discuss malware prevention and response if you see something that does not look right. Offered for free, no sign up required, just come to the Library, everyone is welcome. Presented by RockTech Trainers, these interactive classes are fun and informative for the 'non-tech savvy'

LEADERSHIP SAN JUAN CLASS XIV 
(Applications due Monday, November 27 at 5:30 pm)
Sessions help participants develop facilitative leadership skills and an improved understanding of how local organizations, both public and private, work together in the islands.  Our five-month program includes 11 Program Days, including Orientation, Skills-building Retreats, Challenge Days, and Graduation and 1 Service Project Day when participants participate in a small group service project - determined on the focus of your group. EDC TO OFFER FREE CONSTRUCTION BASICS TRAINING
(Tuesdays and Thursdays, November 28-February 1 @ Orcas Island High School)
The San Juan County Economic Development Council will offer free training in construction basics this winter.  The course will be taught at Orcas Island High School by Vocational and Woodworking Instructor Brett McFarland. The training is geared for high school students and young adults, and will include core construction skills, tool usage, safety and more.  Instruction is open and free to all participants from San Juan County.   The course will run after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 28 through February 1, 3:30-5:30 pm. There is no cost for training; pre-registration and a $10 filing fee is required.The deadline to apply is November 17th.

STATE PARKS HOLD WORKSHOP TO CONSIDER BOUNDARY CHANGES 
(Wednesday, November 29, 6:00 - 8:00 pm @ Eastsound Fire Hall)
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is beginning a public process to consider expanding the long-term park boundaries of   Moran and   Obstruction Pass   state parks on Orcas Island.  There will be a public workshop scheduled for November 29.   At the meeting, State Parks staff will provide background on the parks and their current and proposed future long-term park boundaries.

WINE AND UNWIND

Join us in our first ever Wine and Unwind event!  Susie will introduce you to the foundations of yoga. A mindful mix of stillness and movement to strengthen, stretch and rejuvenate the body and mind.  The class will include a guided wine tasting with a focus on sensory evaluations and grounded connections with Stephanie from Doe Bay Wine Company.  $30.00  All levels welcome. 15% off Doe Bay Wine Company to all participants. COMMUNITY ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

Walk into Wellness! Orcas Mandala Yoga Studio will host a Community Acupuncture Clinic on with Danielle Dyer of Heal~Flow Acupuncture. Treatments will be based in Japanese constitutional acupuncture, which seeks to treat our root imbalances through fewer needles and gentle techniques. This exhibit will showcase all animals;  Feathers, Scales, Fur. The works on display may be offered for sale if the artist so chooses. This show will be in both the LOBBY GALLERY AND MADRONA ROOM.

SAN JUAN ISLAND MUSEUM OF ART EXHIBIT
(Opening Reception Friday, November 17, 5:00 - 8:00 pm @ SJIMA, Friday Harbor)
 "Cracking the Surface " features emerging and established local artists (some from Orcas Island) expressing the beauty, identity, authenticity and connectedness of our community. Exhibit runs November 18 to January 8.

ART COLLECTORS INVITED TO DISPLAY AT ORCAS CENTER
(Intake Wednesday, November 29, 10:00 - 2:00 pm, @ Orcas Center)
Art collectors are invited to participate in the upcoming unique show of "Art from Around the World", featuring works of art assembled by local residents sharing some of their favorite pieces of indigenous art. Items will encompass original creations from the Caribbean to Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa, India and beyond. The display can include paintings, sculptures, textiles. masks, and other interesting native creations, and stories about where and how your art was found are a welcome addition. A reception for public viewing will be on Friday, December 1, from 5:30 pm . This unusual show reflects the wide-ranging interest of our Orcas community and will remain open to the public at Orcas Center through December 22.

THE ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS AND CATKIN CAFE
The Orcas Island Artworks Gallery is a favorite Orcas destination housed in a historic building on the island's East side. Built in 1938 as a strawberry barreling plant, the lovingly restored landmark now showcases the best of our island's crafts and fine arts.Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. 
Catkin Cafe is open Wednesday-Sunday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm.

ORCAS ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUMS
The Pioneer Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 am to 3 pm or by appointment. Admission is by donation, there is a craft table for children to enjoy, and a great selection of Gift Shop items. Come and experience the special exhibit of "Presenting Orcas Voices" at the Pioneer Museum.  The Crow Valley School is o pen by appointment.
