 This comedic and fantastical play comes to life with local performers, including Christopher Evans as Willy Wonka and Anwyn Thompson as Charlie Bucket. The story follows young Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe as they join a small group of contest winners who get to tour the magical and mysterious factory of eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka. Directed by Didier Gincig, features an all-island cast. The Funhouse Commons is thrilled to be a recipient of proceeds from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

 This Thanksgiving weekend, the Olga Symphony returns to Orcas Center for two nights of music, fun, and fancy clothes. Melinda, Gordon, JP and Anita will be playing all your favorite non-symphonic Olga Symphony works on guitar, bass, fiddle, ukulele, banjo, dobro, saw, shaker, and, of course, voice. The Symphony will be joined by 3 very special guests this year -Tom Rawson, Mandy Troxel, and Mel Urbanozo. Proceeds from the concert and CD sales will be donated to local charities. GRAND OPENING WEEKEND AT THE EXCHANGE

 The new Exchange reuse facility on Orcas Island will re-open November 24, 'Black Friday'.
This will kick-off a Grand-Opening Weekend, that will run through Sunday. Hot dogs and cider will be served at lunch, and The Exchange will be offering a junk-craft workshop for kids.
While everyone involved with the new Exchange is excited about the opening, everyone also shares a common concern: The expected tidal wave of materials the community wants to donate. Therefore, r

FIRST TOWN HALL MEETING-PUBLIC HOSPITAL DISTRICT

The Coalition for Orcas Health Care (COHC) wants to hear from as many folks in the community as possible. Toward that goal, it has planned four Town Hall-style meetings over the next few months to hold a community conversation about the proposed Public Hospital District.
The first two meetings will be to share general information, the third to provide information about Public Hospital Districts and how they work. The fourth will allow commissioner candidates to make their case before the public. Click HERE to see the schedule for more meetings.

LEADERSHIP SAN JUAN CLASS XIV

EDC TO OFFER FREE CONSTRUCTION BASICS TRAINING

The San Juan County Economic Development Council will offer free training in construction basics this winter.
The course will be taught at Orcas Island High School by Vocational and Woodworking Instructor Brett McFarland. The training is geared for high school students and young adults, and will include core construction skills, tool usage, safety and more. Instruction is open and free to all participants from San Juan County.
The course will run after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 28 through February 1, 3:30-5:30 pm. There is no cost for training; pre-registration and a $10 filing fee is required.The deadline to apply is November 17th.

SAN JUAN ISLAND MUSEUM OF ART EXHIBIT

"Cracking the Surface " features emerging and established local artists (some from Orcas Island) expressing the beauty, identity, authenticity and connectedness of our community. Exhibit runs November 18 to January 8.
ART COLLECTORS INVITED TO DISPLAY AT ORCAS CENTER
(Intake Wednesday, November 29, 10:00 - 2:00 pm, @ Orcas Center)
 Art collectors are invited to participate in the upcoming unique show of "Art from Around the World", featuring works of art assembled by local residents sharing some of their favorite pieces of indigenous art. Items will encompass original creations from the Caribbean to Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa, India and beyond. The display can include paintings, sculptures, textiles. masks, and other interesting native creations, and stories about where and how your art was found are a welcome addition.
A reception for public viewing will be on Friday, December 1, from 5:30 pm . This unusual show reflects the wide-ranging interest of our Orcas community and will remain open to the public at Orcas Center through December 22.

THE ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS AND CATKIN CAFE
The Orcas Island Artworks Gallery is a favorite Orcas destination housed in a historic building on the island's East side. Built in 1938 as a strawberry barreling plant, the lovingly restored landmark now showcases the best of our island's crafts and fine arts.Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Catkin Cafe is open Wednesday-Sunday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm.

ORCAS ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUMS
The Pioneer Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 am to 3 pm or by appointment. Admission is by donation, there is a craft table for children to enjoy, and a great selection of Gift Shop items. Come and experience the special exhibit of "Presenting Orcas Voices" at the Pioneer Museum.

MORAN MANSION MUSEUM TOURS
