This is a story about Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. SUCCESSFUL YEAR-ROUND VEGETABLE GARDENING

garden clubDr. Carol Miles, 'Vegetable Specialist' and Associate Professor at WSU, will provide recommendations for how to successfully grow a diversity of vegetable crops year round in our northwest climate. She will also discuss simple techniques to establish productive soil and how to irrigate efficiently. The Orcas Island Garden Club welcomes new members and encourages you to enjoy this month's presentation. Half-year memberships are now available so stop by our membership table and sign up! Zero Waste Week 2018 is a student-fueled, kid-powered week of environmental information and action to encourage all our island residents to go towards ZERO! SAFE SAN JUANS TWILIGHT GLOW RUN

SAFE San Juans 2nd Annual Twilight Glow Run 5k is in honor of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This well lit fun run will feature glow sticks, glow paint, a post-race event with music, food, and more! SAFE on the Rocks will have something fun for everyone. Put this on your calendar as we raise awareness and support survivors.  Race starts at 7:45 pm at Orcas Athletics & Crossfit with race staging starting at 7 pm and the post-race family fun after the race!  All racers will receive a swag bag, with headlamp(required to wear) completion prize, and other cool giveaways!   Walkers are welcome! Preregistration discount $20. LENT PRAYER AND SOUP SERVICES 
(Wednesdays now through March 21, 5:30 pm @ Orcas Island Churches)
Community members are invited to join the members of four Orcas Island churches on Wednesday evenings during the season of Lent to pray together, celebrate and share a soup dinner.  The first dinner will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on February 28, with a service led by the Lutheran church. On March 7, we'll meet at St. Francis Catholic Church; March 14 will be hosted by Orcas Island Community Church and March 21 will be hosted by the Episcopal church.  All are welcome to attend.

REHEARSALS FOR GOSPEL CHOIR WITH DR. NEWBY
(Saturday, March 24, 9:00 am- 2:45 pm and Saturday, April 14, 9:00 - 11:00 am @ Orcas Island Community Church)
We will introduce the piece and rehearsal materials. We will take a break for lunch (not provided). We will schedule additional rehearsals/sectionals on this date.
Gospel Choir Rehearsal: April 14 from 9:00 to 11:00 am:  We will rehearse again on the morning of our first performance. At this time we will be joined by members of SPU's Gospel Choir and the choir from Antioch Church. We will perform the Gospel Mass in two performances:  Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, April 15 at 1:00 pm.
Tickets will be available for a suggested donation of $20 online and at the church office.

MISSION: ADVERTISING WORKSHOP

Come celebrate St Patrick's Day with live Irish music by the Crow Valley String Band and Brograss.  Band members, Tashi Litch, Kaj Litch, Rachel Bishop and Jim Litch will make their annual return to their musical roots for this lively evening of fine traditional Celtic music (and a little bluegrass). The Crow Valley String Band and Brograss is known for its appealing repertoire of high-energy traditional music delivered with keen arrangements for string instruments.  There is no cover for the event,  Guinness on tap and the Irish menu of the White Horse Pub will be available.

ROSARIO MUSIC CONCERT AND HISTORICAL NARRATIVE

Enjoy a presentation of music and history of the Moran family and the Rosario estate with Christopher Peacock. Highlights of the presentation include the Moran Photograph Collection, Phantom of the Opera music performed on the Mansion's 1,972 pipe Aeolian organ, stories of the Mansion's most colorful residents, and Christopher's original piano compositions played on the 1900 Steinway Grand Piano. Complimentary and open to the public.

MARCH ART EXHIBIT AT ORCAS CENTER  
Arbor Intelligence, n ew works by Seattle Artist Cheryl A. Ritchey, Professor Emeritus, UW/School of Social Work, exhibits 18 abstract "tree spirit" paintings that explore the subtle power and mystery of trees, especially their secret lives or "souls." Additionally, 9 mixed-media "improvisation" drawings, started while blindfolded to reach a deeper level of "seeing," will be exhibited in the Madrona Room.  Exhibition runs until April 3.  Orcas Center Gallery Hours are Tuesday - Friday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

WASHINGTON FEDERAL'S ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Island resident Carla Stanley is the featured artist for March at Washington Federal. Please drop by for a shot of whimsy and light hearted fun, come in and see her 8-foot giraffe. All are welcome, Monday-Friday 9-5. Free

CALL FOR WORKS FOR ORCAS CENTER'S APRIL SHOW
Island artists are invited to bring works for the "Orcas Community Artists" (On and Off the Wall) show in the Center's Madrona Room. In keeping with April's literary offerings, artwork related to books is encouraged but all art is welcomed.  For this  exhibit, artwork will be accepted on Wednesday, April 4, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Both exhibits will run until May 2.  Visual Arts Committee member Pat Littlewood is the April exhibit coordinator.

THE ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS 
The Orcas Island Artworks Gallery is a favorite Orcas destination housed in a historic building on the island's East side. Built in 1938 as a strawberry barreling plant, the lovingly restored landmark now showcases the best of our island's crafts and fine arts. Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

ORCAS ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUM
The Pioneer Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 12:00 - 3:00 pm or by appointment. Admission is by donation. There is a craft table for children to enjoy, and a great selection of Gift Shop items. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 - 5:00 pm.  The Crow Valley School is o pen by appointment during the quiet season.

MORAN MANSION MUSEUM TOURS
