EASTSOUND EVENING ART WALK SUMMER SERIES
(Thursday, June 22, 5:00 pm @ Eastsound)
A casual, self guided stroll through the Galleries from Victory Hill, the Jacqueline Kempfer Artist Studio to Crow Valley Pottery & Gallery  at the end of North Beach Rd at Main St. and participating business in between.  Art Walkers can look for and or stroll though the village and visit the participating shops and galleries.

AN EVENING IN FRANCE
(Thursday, June 22, 6:00 pm @ The Victorian Room, Outlook Inn)
Join the  Orcas Animal Protection Society's annual wine pairing dinner and auction featuring Chef Steve Debaste and Auctioneer Ian Lindsay.  This year Chef Steve is presenting a five course French menu with wine pairings introduced by Sommelier Cole Sisson.  Tickets are $150 per person.  All proceeds benefit the shelter.

DEAD MAN'S CELL PHO NE @ ORCAS CENTER
(Thursday - Saturday, June 22-24; Friday, June 30 - Saturday, July 1, 7:30 pm
 Sunday, July 2, 2 pm @ OffCenter Stage)                                                                   Dead Man's Cell Phone explores the paradox of modern technology's ability to both unite and isolate people in the digital age.  The romantic comedy, written by Sarah Ruhl, describe s the fragmentation of conversations, voices and lives, moves irreverently among subjects like mortality and memory, the selling of body parts, obsession with stationary paper, lobster bisque, the afterlife, and, of course, the eponymous cell phone.                                         
There will be a reception following the Opening Night production June 22 in the Black Box. OffCenter productions sell out quickly so don't wait to get your tickets! Tickets: $17, $13 students, $2 off for Orcas Center members.

FROM THE BRITISH ISLANDS TO ORCAS ISLAND
(Thursday - Saturday, June 22-24 @ Random Howse & June 24 @ Orcas Center)
Living historian Tames Alan will be giving presentations with the theme "From the British Islands to Orcas Island". She will be doing two Downton Abbey presentations Thursday. $15 includes a period dessert and both talks at Random Howse.
Friday is a Shakespeare/Elizabethan presentation by donation.   Saturday, she and her husband will teach an Elizabethan era dance lesson (no partners needed) at 2:00 pm and East coast swing dance lessons at 9:00 pm (no partner needed)  followed by swing music dance until midnight.

LIBRARY GRAND OPENING

The Orcas Island Library will be celebrating the grand opening of its new building addition.  Join us for a free dinner, including bratwursts, hot dogs (meat and vegetarian), sauerkraut, ice cream, and cake. Come tour the beautiful new addition and new landscaping. At six p.m. we'll have a brief program, followed by more time to enjoy the new indoor and outdoor spaces.  Also, there will be a no-host beer stand, court esy of Island Hoppin' Brewery, with all proceeds going to the Friends of the Library.

ORCAS ISLAND GARDEN TOUR: "ENCHANTED GARDENS"

Five Gardens invite you to explore a variety of special places on our beautiful Orcas Island. SUMMER SOLSTICE PARADE AND CELEBRATION

This is the 19th Annual Summer Solstice parade! The theme is  Island Rhythms. This whimsical foot parade will wind its way up North Beach Road  to the Stage on the Green for music and dancing. HONORARY MAYOR OF EASTSOUND DEBATE
(Sunday, June 25, 1:00 pm @ Courtyard adjacent to the Barnacle) 
Four canines and one cat will face some tough questions from moderator Evan Wagoner-Lynch when they take the stage in the first ever Honorary Mayor of Eastsound Debate. Whatever your political affiliation, the event is expected to leave attendees literally buzzing. Hosted by The Barnacle, the event will include some special cocktail offers in honor of current candidates, Dr. Spyder, Hudson, Skye, Toby and Tyrone.  Immigration, global warming, heath care and any advance meetings with Russian officials are expected to be high on his list of questions. The election wraps up at 2:00 pm on July 1.

Dana Lyons of "Cows with Guns" fame is coming to play at Doe Bay. MATTHEW LASLO'S - MAGIC NOW 
(Friday - Sunday, June 30, July 1, July 2,  7:30 pm @ Sea View Theatre ) 
A magic show for the entire family!  Matthew Laslo takes to the stage at the Sea View theatre for a three-night engagement of his new show, MAGIC NOW.  Laslo is an accomplished performer who made his national television debut on PENN & TELLER: FOOL US last summer and impressed Penn & Teller with his originality and showmanship.  Joining him is his lovely assistant Maria Bullock and Kellen Comrie. EASTSOUND FIRE STATION PANCAKE BREAKFAST 
(Saturday, July 1, 7:00 am - 11:00 am @ Eastsound Fire Station) 
Come join the Orcas Island Fire and Rescue Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Association for our Annual Pancake Breakfast. Volunteers will be serving up our secret recipe for pancakes, sausage, eggs, and beverages. Adults $8.00, Children $5.00, under 5 years of age eat FREE. All proceeds support your LOCAL Firefighters and EMT's.  Wishing everyone a SAFE and HAPPY 4th of July and summer.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
(Saturday, July 1, 10:00 am @ Village Green)
This is the 66th year that the Orcas Island Historical Museums has sponsored this summer celebration of the island's history.  The day's festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. with the pie booth. Volunteers will be serving slices of home baked fruit pies. Pie a la mode is available as an option thanks to the contribution of Island Market. There will be a beer garden (supplied by Island Hoppin' brewery) and a hot dog stand (with equipment supplied by Kiwanis and Lions clubs).   At 1:30 p.m. the Harvey Family will open up their logging show, demonstrating the skills used to fell and dress timber on the islands.

6TH ANNUAL FUNHOUSE COMMONS 5K RUN
(Tuesday, July 4, 9:00 am @ Eastsound Village Green)
We'll start promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the Eastsound Village Green.  The run will include the Crescent Beach Trail, and will finish back at the Green.  Zany patriotic wear is encouraged, and all are welcome to run or walk the route at their own pace.  The 5K fee is $35 and includes a stainless steel water bottle while supplies last.  Late registration on race day will be available for an additional $5.
At 10:00, kids can run a 1K race, for a $10 entry fee. 
All proceeds benefit the Funhouse Commons and their programs for island kids.

4TH OF JULY "INTER-DEPENDENCE DAY" CELEBRATION
(Tuesday, July 4, 3:00 pm - 10:00 pm @ Orcasong Farm) 
Come partake in a very special evening of learning, singing, lawn games, deep dialogue, food sharing, and eclectic musicians from near & far. Invite your friends and family for the late afternoon "Music as Medicine" workshop (3:00 - 6:00 pm) or come for the potluck & concert portion of the show (6:00 -10:pm) Dinner jazz music & opening set by The Living Arrows. Full concert by the SF Bay area's Lydia Violet Quartet. (Children very welcome, but please leave your pets at home. Alcohol is welcome, but drunkenness is not).   $10-40 sliding scale

SITAR MASTER DEOBRAT MISHRA IN CONCERT 
(Tuesday, July 4, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm@ Oddfellows Hall)
Internationally acclaimed sitar artist Pandit Deobrat Mishra returns to Orcas for a concert at the Oddfellows Hall, accompanied by Prashant Mishra on tabla. This is a rare opportunity to experience the transcendent music of India in an intimate setting. Proceeds support the non-profit DAYA Foundation and the Benares Academy of Indian Classical music.

SPOOKY TALES RETURNS AT ORCAS ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUMS
(Wednesdays and Fridays, July 5- August 30, 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm)

Stories of Orcas ghosts, limekilns, and local folklore will be told this summer at the Pioneer Museum at 8:00 pm and the Crow Valley School Museum at 5:00 pm. Master Storyteller, Antoinette Botsford will again delight audiences this summer. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for those 18 and under and $2 off for Museum Members. Tickets may be purchased online, at either Museum, or at the performance.

ORCAS FOOD CO-OP OWNER DRIVE
Orcas Food Co-op is excited to announce that they will be growing the co-op community through the first annual Owner Drive "Join In July". New households that sign up during this month-long event will receive a free gift when they turn in their application. Those who pay in full up front will get a gift bag filled with great samples of favorite products near and far.  Existing Co-op Owners can get in on the fun as well! NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR FUNHOUSE
Maureen Moran moved from Seattle to Orcas Island with her family in 2016. Her husband, Jim, works on the inter-island run for the Washington State Ferries. Her two children, Molly (7) and Theo (8-1/2), participate in many Funhouse programs.
Maureen spent over 12 years working as an executive assistant managing offices at the senior executive level at F5 Networks, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Safeco Insurance, and JPMorgan Chase. She also brings a background in theater, having directed, produced and performed in numerous productions at various Seattle nonprofit theaters.

ORCAS WOMEN'S COALITION MEETING
We're hosting our quarterly meeting on Sunday, June 25th from 4-6 PM at the Orcas Public School Cafeteria.  Feel free to arrive before 4PM for social networking and light refreshments.  The meeting begins promptly at 4 with Opening Exercises, Announcements and Action Team Updates.  After a brief break, we continue with presentations by Lisa Byers, Director of OPAL, Orcas' Community Land Trust, and Anne Bertino, coordinator of our Affordable Housing Action Team, about the challenges and solutions available to meet the housing needs in our community.

Pelindaba and Orcasong  announced a long-term strategic alliance to significantly expand Lavender production in the San Juan Islands.  "Orcasong and Pelindaba share a common vision of creating and developing initiatives that improve life in the San Juan Islands, benefit the local community, and meet growing demand in a sustainable way. This alliance is another step in that direction and a natural extension of our core interests" said Paul King, Chief Operating Officer of Orcasong.

COMMUNITY ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

Heal~Flow Acupuncture treatments by Danielle Dyer will be based in Japanese constitutional acupuncture, which seeks to treat our root imbalances through fewer needles and gentle techniques.  Danielle Dyer's style as a practitioner is rooted in touch. She uses information gathered from the pulse, tongue, channels and abdomen to make sure the treatment is right for your body and the moment. LAST CALL FOR SUMMER THEATER CAMP
Camp starts June 26 to June 30, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, and is $250 per child.
This year, camp will be open to 15 students ages 8 to 13.                                               The activities of the camp will be based on African rhythms, songs, dances and student constructed musical, percussion instruments made out of junk.
There will be a short performance at the end of camp on Center Stage on June. 30.
Featured this year will be a 2 hour master class at 6:30 on June 29, which will be open to the public, on junk instruments given by Canadian musician and junk orchestra conductor, Paul Snider ( paulsnidermusic.com).



SUMMER SOLSTICE SALUTATION YOGA 
(Saturday June 24 from 9:30 - 11:30am @ Orcas Mandala Studio)
Christine Comito will guide this special Solstice celebration in honor of the Sun and longest day. The class will mostly include variation on the Sun Salutation with a long and sweet Savasana, final rest. Live Music with Fabrice VanPutten.

PADDLE BOARD YOGA 
(Sundays, June 25 - August 13, 9:45 am - 11:00 am @ Cascade Lake)
Join us at Orcas Adventures for this unique class and have the opportunity to move through a few Sea Salutations and enjoy some time to play and explore your balance. Bring your own board or rent a board from Orcas Adventures and find your way to a blissful experience on Cascade Lake's quiet waters.  Our Paddle Board Yoga class is 1 hour long (check in is at 9:45am) and is taught by Christine Comito. Reservations are strongly recommended. $18 if you bring your own board, $28 with SUP board rental included.

CELTIC DANCE WORKSHOP & LIVING AMONG THE OAK GROVES
(Sunday, June 25, 3:00 pm Workshop & 7:30 pm Lecture @ Orcas Center)
Tickets are $8 which includes both the Celtic dance workshop at 3:00 pm and the performance at 7:30 pm. From the mists of time, music and dance have intertwined throughout the lives of the Celts, making it impossible to separate it from their culture. Tames Alan, Living Historian, presents Celtic dance workshop which offers a choice of three simple Scottish ceilidh dances. In the program, Learning Among the Oak Groves, Tames talks about what it was like to live in ancient Britain at the time of the Roman invasion. Part of her program centers on Celtic women and their training as wives, warriors, and leaders of worship. Included is a discussion of art, music, and dance.

JUNK MASTER CLASS WITH PAUL SNIDER

Summer Theatre Camp and Paul Snider present Junk Master Class on Center Stage which will be open to the public. This 2 hour master class with junk instruments is given by Canadian musician and junk orchestra conductor, Paul Snider.





LIVING WELL WITH A DISABILITY 
(Fridays June 30 - September 1, 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm, @ Orcas Senior Center)
San Juan County, in partnership with Washington Vocational Services presents: Living Well, a 10 week self management course designed specifically for people living in rural communities. This evidence based, peer led, health promotion workshop is based on the philosophy which recognizes that individual choices are essential components for living a full independent life. Participants will set and reach quality-of-life goals by developing a healthy life style. This is a FREE course. (6.8/6.22)

COMMUNITY DANCE CLASS: SALSA
(Monday, July 3, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Odd Fellows Hall)
We will be having another session of Salsa and are again privileged to have
Anthony and his friends return as our guest instructors.  This is a great opportunity to
learn Salsa from a very experienced and talented dancer.  The class is free and no
partner is needed.  Come out and enjoy  yourself while learning or improving your knowledge of dance. Learning to dance is  good for your health, well being and ability to relate to others.

Tias and Surya Little, of Prajna Yoga will be on Orcas to teach classes. ORCAS ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUMS
The Pioneer Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm or by appointment. Admission is $5, there is a craft table for children to enjoy, and a great selection of Gift Shop items.  181 North Beach Road.
The Crow Valley School Museum is o pen every Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 pm or by appointment  through Saturday, September 2. Admission by donation.  Located at 1668 Crow Valley Road.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH at WASHINGTON FEDERAL
Washington Federal's June Artist of the Month is Barb Von Gunten. Join us Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm to enjoy Barb's mixed media pieces including ornamental nautical knotwork and crochets, paper quilts, etchings, collages, weavings, soft muslin sculpture, and beautiful watercolors. Quilt patterns such as Mollusks' Frolic and Snail's Trail feature in Barb's works, and offer tribute to Amish traditions and gardeners everywhere.
 

THE ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS 
The Orcas Island Artworks Gallery is a favorite Orcas destination housed in a historic building on the island's East side. Built in 1938 as a strawberry barreling plant, the lovingly restored landmark now showcases the best of our island's crafts and fine arts.Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
