Another wonderful year of music from your amazing students. Once again, we will have Reserved Concert Seating available. This is your chance to get one of the best seats in the house without having to rush and you can also raise funds for the BHS Performing Arts at the same time. Reserve your seat now at Showtix4u, choose the "Buy Tickets" option and select your concert performance.

Uniform Check In After the Concert - Bring Street Clothes
All orchestra students must bring street clothes to the concert and turn in their concert attire afterward. Graduating Senior Men - you are welcome to donate your tux shirts and cuff links to BPA for next year's choir students.

Students (not Seniors) in the following groups will keep their uniforms to perform at graduation:
  • Wind Ensemble
  • Select Percussionists

Orchestra News 
Fiddlers at NW Folklife

The Ballard Fiddlers played at the Center Theatre at NW Folklife on Saturday. They mixed genres playing traditional fiddle tunes along with James Brown's "I Feel Good", and Van Morrison's "Moondance"! The packed house enjoyed it immensely. Want more fiddle music in your life? June 16th Fiddle Showcase at the Ballard Homestead

If you enjoy an evening of fiddle music topped off with some audience square dancing, look no further than the Ballard Homestead on Friday, June 16th at 7:00 PM. The Ballard High Fiddlers will take the stage with their bluegrass and folk tunes to keep your toes tapping. Advance tickets are available now!

Orchestra Trip to NYC -  March 2018
Lincoln Center, NYC

Chamber Orchestra will be traveling to New York City next March to compete in the National Orchestra Cup, March 1 - 4!

Chamber auditions for current Symphonic Orchestra members are occurring June 12th and 13th during class.  Audition materials are up on the class Schoology page. Contact Ms. Newell for questions.

Jazz Alley Was Swingin' on Tuesday Night!

Vocal Jazz Auditions - June 15
Vocal Jazz Auditions will be held Thursday, June 15 th from 3:30 - 5:30 PM.  Students interested in auditioning should pick up an audition sheet and sign-up in the Black Box. Paperwork can also be found here: Vocal Jazz Information Sheet and Vocal Jazz Audition Contract.   
Vocal Jazz Solo Night
Monday, June 5th at 7:15 PM in the Black Box

All Vocal Jazz members will present a jazz standard, backed up by the incomparable Ev Stern Jazz Trio.  Come support Vocal Jazz and enjoy a fun evening of song!  Donations will be accepted at the door to help offset the cost of our professional musicians.  We hope to see you there!

Spring Concert Recap 

Top to Bottom: Concert Choir, Advanced Chorale, Treble Choir

Thank you Director Courtney Rowley, Accompanist, Serena Chin and all six performing groups for an evening of beautiful singing and bittersweet celebration.  We will miss you, Class of 2017, and wish you the best in your next grand adventure! It has been such a pleasure to listen to your voices and watch you grow as vocal performers these last four years. The following Seniors received awards at last Thursday's concert:

Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Jazz Award: Madi Lieberman-Koenig
Outstanding Choral Award: Paul Houser and Alex Putnam
BHS Vocal Music Award of Excellence: Meg Shepherd and Diego Roberts Buceta

In addition to the student awards, Rebecca Staffel received the Golden Note award for outstanding volunteer contributions to the Choir Program. We are grateful for her many contributions to Choir and BPA and will miss her sunny disposition and can do spirit.  We should also award her "Superwoman" status, as we have yet to find anything she cannot do!

Spring Concert Recordings
Spring Choir Concert recordings are  online and available nowThe link is to a folder called "Ballard Spring 2017." Inside that folder are two others, "Choir .WAV" and "Choir MP3s" The .WAV files are for people who want to burn their own CDs. The MP3 files are for iPods, iPhones and similar devices. The MP3 files will appear in alphabetical order, but when they are downloaded to iTunes they should sort themselves into concert order in an album called "Ballard Spring Concert 2017".  The files will not play on Google Drive - they will only play when downloaded to a device or a computer with a media player. As always, please do not to share or trade the files.

Choir Auditions for 2017 - 2018
Choir placement auditions for all choirs will happen during class next week. Audition information can be found here.   If you know of any students who are not currently enrolled in choir but would like to be next year, please have them email Ms. Rowley  to set up an audition time!
Auditions for Women's Chamber Choir and Men's Ensemble will take place in the fall.

Treble Choir at the Women's University Club 
Treble Choir performed by invitation at the "Music Counts" fundraiser for music education two weeks ago. They performed beautifully for a very enthusiastic crowd. Thank you to all of the drivers who transported the students there and back on a busy Friday night!

Clean Up Clean Up Everybody Everywhere...
Saturday, June 3rd 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

As the song goes, "Clean Up, Clean Up, everybody everywhere, Clean Up, Clean Up, everybody do your share!"  

Saturday, June 3rd is the annual BPA Clean Up Day. Many hands make light work! Parents and Students (who will earn service hours) come anytime between 9:00 - 1:00 and help the Directors clean the Black Box and Music Room top to bottom! Wash windows, dust cabinets, mop floors, clean and dust trophy case in the hall, clean out rehearsal rooms. Another big job is spray painting music stands that need it. Help needed to get the tuxes and dresses ready for dry cleaning. Students Sign Up in the Black Box or Music Room.  Come for a short time or stay for as long as you can and then head over to Patxi's Pizza.

Family Summer Opportunity for Choir 

The Seachordsmen (proud sponsor of Ballad Performing Arts) invite all men in the choir(s) & their fathers or guardians to the Seattle SeaChordsmen's guest night rehearsal on Tuesday, July 18th.

2017 - 2018 VP Communications
Time Commitment - 8 hours/month from home or BHS

Acts as a coordinator for the Communications Committee. Receives and disseminates information for internal and external use. Help develop strategy and schedule. Stores information on the Google drive. Stays in close communication with the Newsletter Editor and Calendar Owner. After Graphic Design artists generates poster, orders printing of posters and passes them to the Poster Distribution Lead. The following positions are part of Communications Committee: Publicity Lead, Website Chair, Poster Distribution Lead, Calendar Owner, Graphic Design (currently open) and Newsletter Editor. Job can be done at home with exception of BPA Board Meetings.
