Dear   -

It's almost time!  We have spent this week gathering final supplies, picking up donated items, stuffing volunteer packets (well, we had some amazing volunteer help with that part) and starting to fill up a U-Haul full of boxes.  Needless to say, we are very excited for next week's Oregon Mission of Mercy, and we are absolutely thrilled that you are sharing your holiday week with us!

Dr. Jill Price, OrMOM Clinic Chair, and Bill Zepp, OrMOM Community Chair, would like for you to read this letter, which should answer some of your questions.

We also need to confirm that the Sunday volunteer orientation session will be held at the Oregon Convention Center in Oregon Ballroom 201-203 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.  The 11/8 newsletter contained an incorrect time of 6:30pm.  We apologize for any confusion.

As a reminder, this is one of a series of volunteer newsletters that is intended to give you more information and, hopefully, answer some of your questions about OrMOM.  This newsletter should answer all of your logistical questions.  Other newsletters can be read by following the link to the left.

November 20-23, 2011

Oregon Convention Center

777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd

Portland, Oregon 97232

We'd like to encourage you to carpool or take public transportation (MAX stops at OCC).  Complimentary parking will be available in the Oregon Convention Center garage.  Please make sure to leave your valuables at home or locked safely in the trunk of your car.  We will not have a secure area available for these items.

On Sunday:

  •  Take a ticket as you enter the garage.  If you leave the OCC prior to 6:30pm, make sure to get a parking voucher at Volunteer Registration.  If you leave after 6:30 pm, you will be able to leave without a voucher.

On Monday and Tuesday:

  • Please print this Volunteer Parking Pass, show it to the parking volunteer as you enter the garage and leave it on your dashboard while your car is parked in the garage.
What's My Job?

We have posted all of the department protocols/ job descriptions on the volunteer website.  Please take a few minutes to read the protocols that apply to everyone as well as the ones that apply to your department.

Non-clinical volunteers - most of your position descriptions are here.

Volunteer Orientation
You've heard it before, but we really would like to stress the importance of attending an orientation session.  Between volunteers and patients, we'll have a very full clinic, and if all of you know how we're operating, everything will flow much more efficiently, and we'll be able to help more people.  Your orientation options are:
  • Sunday, 11/20 at 5:30pm in Oregon ballroom 201-203
  • Monday & Tuesday, 11/21-22 at 5:30 am & 11:30 am in the volunteer lounge (C123-124)
  • alternatively - arrive 20 minutes before your shift to be oriented by your department lead

Volunteer Lounge, Restrooms and Massages

The C-bank of rooms will be your haven during the clinic.  This is where you'll find volunteer registration, the volunteer lounge (coffee & tea, water and snacks/food), free (donated!) massages for volunteers and volunteer-only restrooms (you can use the ones in the hall, as well).  Oh, and we'll have water bubblers in the Lounge, so bring your own re-usable water bottle.
