Dear   -

Thank you, again, for giving your time and talents to Oregon Mission of Mercy this Thanksgiving week!  We are looking forward to helping a lot of people receive free dental care and oral health education in just two days!

Oregon Mission of Mercy is officially under a month away!  Arrangements are well under way, and we are getting very excited for Thanksgiving week and the clinic to arrive.

This is one of a series of volunteer newsletters that is intended to give you more information and, hopefully, answer some of your questions about OrMOM.  Also check out the 2011 OrMOM Links on the left.

Instruments & Assistant Chairs

Are you wondering what you should bring with you to OrMOM?

Dental instruments will be provided at OrMOM.  If you would feel more comfortable using your own, feel free to bring them.  Please make sure that they are clearly labeled to make it easier to get them back to you after sterilization.

Assistant Chairs

The mobile dental units that we are renting each come equiped with one dental chair.  It is intended to be used by the dentist.  Assistants wanting a chairside stool should bring their own, clearly labeled with their name.

Volunteer Orientation - RSVP by 11/9/11

Everyone volunteering on Monday and Tuesday should plan to attend an orientation session prior to volunteering - even if you volunteered at OrMOM 2011 - so that we make sure that everyone is on the same page during the clinic.  If you are only volunteering for clinic set up and tear down, then you do not need to attend this session.
You are all invited to join us on Sunday evening (11/20) from 5:30 - 8pm at the Oregon Convention Center for dinner and volunteer orientation.   This is a great time to pick up your volunteer packet & shirt/scrub top, undergo OrMOM orientation, tour the clinic and meet with your department lead for a department-level orientation.
Please RSVP here by Wednesday, November 9th, so that we can plan accordingly.  Thank you to the Bomber Restaurant for catering this event for us.

While we would encourage everyone to attend Sunday's orientation, if you are not available, orientation sessions will also be available at 5:30 am and 11:30 am on Monday and Tuesday.

What to wear & Where to park

What should I wear to OrMOM?
We will provide health professionals with OrMOM scrub tops and community volunteers with OrMOM t-shirts.  Please make sure to wear them during the clinic so that we are able to differentiate between patients and volunteers.  Otherwise, we'd like you to be comfortable, so dress casually and wear good shoes.  The convention center floor is concrete, so good, comfortable shoes are a must.
Where can I park?
Complimentary parking will be available for volunteers in the lower level of the Oregon Convention Center parking garage.  In a future newsletter, we'll provide you with a parking pass to print and have on your dashboard to be admitted into the garage.
Email Addresses/ Communications

If your office/organization used the same email address to register more than one volunteer, you will only receive one copy of this newsletter (Constant Contact will not send duplicates).  You may have also noticed that volunteer schedules do not have names attached (this cannot be customized in our registration system).  If you would like separate emails sent in the future, please send the volunteers' names and individual email addresses to, and we'll update our system accordingly.  We respect your privacy and will not use any volunteers' emails for anything unrelated to OrMOM.  We appreciate your understanding as we work with a low-cost system in order to keep overhead down and maximize the power of donations.
