OrMOM Volunteer News 11/11/2010
Oregon Mission of Mercy logo
Oregon Mission of Mercy is just ten days away!

We can't say thank you enough for taking time out of your holiday schedule to help us reach our goal of providing $1 million worth of free dental care to 1,500 to 2,000 people in just two days! We would not be able to accomplish this incredible undertaking without you and the 1100+ other people who have registered to volunteer!

This is the third of a series of volunteer newsletters that will hopefully familiarize you with MOM and get you excited for the November 22-23 clinic. Click here to read the first two emails, sent 10/1 and 10/23.

OrMOM Partners
The ODA is incredibly grateful for all of the wonderful support that we have been receiving from the community. Please thank these OrMOM partners the next time you see them!
Where's my schedule?

As you can imagine, it is taking a bit longer than expected to get all 1100+ of you assigned to the different OrMOM opportunities. We're almost there, though, and you should receive an email from us next week with your schedule, as well as more information on what time to arrive, what to wear, etc. The name of the game at any MOM event is flexibility, and we appreciate your patience as we put together our first MOM event.

Attention Dentists
We still have opennings for dentists on Tuesday, 11/23/10. If you are scheduled to work on Monday and are available to work on Tuesday, too, we would really appreciate it. Also, if you have colleagues that might be available on Tuesday, please ask them to volunteer. Give us a call (503-218-2010) or email, and we'll get you all taken care of.

Hotel & Parking

If you are coming from out of town, the DoubleTree Hotel Lloyd Center is giving OrMOM volunteers a terrific deal on rooms that includes free overnight parking. The DoubleTree is just a few stops on the MAX line from the convention center, so you wouldn't even have to drive.

  • $59 - standard room
  • $69 - premium room

Group Code: Oregon MOM Project group rate

Deadline for reservations at this rate: Sunday, November 14, 2010

Call for reservations: (503) 281-6111

  • Please use public transportation (the OCC is on a MAX line) or carpool!
  • Parking pass - make sure to print this out and bring it with you!

We've changed the parking situation since the last newsletter. We now have the bottom floor of the convention center parking garage reserved for OrMOM volunteers! The new plan is for all volunteers to print out the parking pass and put it on your dashboard. If the volunteers at the parking garage entrance do not see this pass, they will encourage you to park elsewhere.

Volunteer Orientation, Arrival & What NOT to Bring
Those who can, do.... Those who can do more, volunteer...

In order to make sure that all of our volunteers understand what to expect and how to help make the OrMOM clinic a success, we need for each of you that is working in the clinic (Monday/Tuesday) to attend one of the five scheduled volunteer sessions at the Oregon Convention Center. If you are only volunteering for set-up/tear-down, your orientation is different and will be at the beginning of your shift. As a special bonus, if you attend the Sunday orientation/ dinner, you can get checked-in & registered so that you do not have to come as early on Monday or Tuesday:
  • Sunday, 11/21: 5:30 pm (includes dinner - please RSVP here)
  • Monday & Tuesday, 11/22 & 11/23: 5:30 am and 11:30 am each day

Volunteer Arrival Times

We will send your specific arrival time along with your schedule. For the most part, the clinic shifts will be 6-12 and 12-6, but some areas (parking, triage, registration, routing, etc) will need to be open earlier and will close earlier. We are also still finalizing the exact times for set-up and tear-down. We ahve decided to tear down on Tuesday night, so if you're scheduled to volunteer on Wednesday, but are available on Tuesday, let us know ( Wednesday morning folks, we may still need you, depending on how much we're able to finish on Tuesday.

What NOT to bring

We will not have a secure area to lock up your belongings, so ladies, please leave your purse at home! We greatly appreciate your planning ahead. The ODA and the OCC are not responsible for any lost or stolen items at OrMOM.
