Public Works and Engineering Services

2016 Annual and Measure J & L Pavement Rehabilitation Project
The City's Measure L and J Program is funded each year through a combination of .5% Sales Tax (Measure L) and bond (Measure J) funds. The scope of work for this program consists of repairing/reconstructing the worst most used residential streets and the associated drainage pipes under the roadways. To see the list of streets scheduled for repair in 2016 and their construction status click here.

Due to the fact that last week was a short week, week of Thanksgiving, the contractor did not perform major paving activities. They raised manhole and water valve covers to new street surface elevations, lined ditches with asphalt and cleaned and winterized sites. About 40 feet of Camino Del Diablo are still unpaved. It is expected that Camino Del Diablo will be finished next week. Also next week, the contractor will start paving activities on North Lane and Berkeley Avenue, weather permitting.

North Lane Storm Water Mitigation Project
This project is substantially completed. The City of Orinda will apply final pavement along North Lane as part of the 2016 Annual and Measures J & L Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

2017 Annual and Measure J & L Pavement Rehabilitation Project
As part of the design phase and coordination with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) related to the 2017 Annual and Measure J & L Pavement Rehabilitation Project, Badger Daylighting Corporation (Badger) is performing potholing activities in several Orinda roadways to determine the depth of PG&E gas lines. Badger's activities will last until early December 2016, is limited to the paved area of the streets, no work will be performed on driveways or private property. Active Shooter Drill
On Wednesday, November 23, 2016 Orinda Police along with numerous other police, fire and school representatives participated in an active shooter drill at Miramonte High School. Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. Law enforcement has learned anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. The provided training aims to enhance preparedness through a "whole community" approach by involving police, fire, paramedics and school personnel to help prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident. It was a very successful and effective training day and brings us one step further to being prepared.
