The world-famous Vermont foliage was sub-par this year, but we more than made up for it with the weather, which has been glorious.  Enough about the weather, let's talk food.

Have you heard?  Pumpkin spice is out, and maple is the 'in' flavor this fall.  We at OFM have always felt maple is superior to pumpkin, so we would like to give a plug to some of the amazing restaurants that have been incorporating our syrup in an array of creative and delicious food and drinks for years.  If you are in the neighborhood, stop by these fine establishments and experience firsthand why maple rules!

Black Diamond BBQ

Real Vermont BBQ! Combining the finest meats, marinade and rub using high quality herbs and spices with local hardwood fired pits yields some of the best barbecue in New England.  Maple and BBQ have always gone well together, these guys take it to the next level.  The wings are amazing, especially the Dry Rub with the Maple Habanero BBQ sauce!

Since rejuvenating the infamous Osborne Hotel (no relation), the crew at the Essex House & Tavern has quickly turned it into the 'go to place' for locals and visitors alike.  Here, you can go full maple!  The maple martini, developed and perfected in-house, is excellent.  Maple Fries, coupled with the I.P. Fish Balls, for appetizers, followed by the Maple Mustard Pork: pork loin, baked and stuffed with spinach and sausage, topped with a creamy maple-mustard sauce.

Fire Tower Pizza
The Elmore Store
1208 Route 12
Lake Elmore, VT

Wednesday-Saturday 3:00pm to 7:00pm

Chef Jimmy Kalp is a master when it comes to utilizing the fresh produce from neighboring Jupiter Farm, topping house made sauces and crust using regional, organic stone ground wheat from Elmore Mountain Bread.  That said, we recommend the The North Country
made with apples, North Country Smokehouse Canadian bacon, Grafton Village cheddar, mozzarella, fresh sage, and Osborne Family maple syrup.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Elmore from the deck or Lake Room, and be sure to grab some OFM syrup to go from the fully stocked shelves of The Elmore Store.
The Spot
210 Shelburne Rd.
Burlington, VT

Sunday & Monday: 7am to 3pm
Tuesday to Saturday: 7am to 9pm
Located on Vermont's west coast, The Spot is a known for the Hawaiian-style ambiance of the surf-style restaurant in a renovated 1950's gas station.  The food is as fun as the setting.  There are not many places that put a jug of pure maple syrup on the table with a stack of pancakes, waffles or French toast.  This is one of them!

Recipe of the Season

Pumpkin still has a place, but this Thanksgiving try jazzing up the standard pumpkin pie with some OFM maple syrup.

Maple Pumpkin Pie

  • or 1 store-bought pie crust, fitted into a 9-inch pie plate
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 15-ounce can pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup pure OFM maple syrup
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

 Serves 8

  1. Set an oven rack in the lowest position and heat oven to 350ยบ F. Place the pie plate on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, pumpkin, cream, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and cloves.
  3.  Pour the pumpkin mixture into the crust and bake until the center is set, 60 to 70 minutes. Let cool to room temperature before serving.
