Q:  Have long have you been volunteering with the Friends?   

A:   I have been volunteering at the bookstore for five years, and have been a member of the Friends for the past 20 years. My husband was president of the Friends in the 1990s, and I helped with membership enrollment.  In addition to helping out at the bookstore, I also help with check-in at some events, and I volunteer in Tech Services at the Spanish River Library one day a week, where I label and put barcodes on library books and other check-out items. Prior to my involvement with the library and at the Friends bookstore, I worked at the Gumbo Limbo gift shop on a volunteer basis, and currently also volunteer at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Boca Raton Historical Society.   I was recently recognized by the City of Boca Raton for my 20+ years of volunteer work here. 

Q: What's your favorite thing about volunteering at the bookstore?     

A:   I look forward to seeing the regular visitors who come to the bookstore on Saturday afternoons when I am there, and wonder if something is wrong if they don't show up!

Q:  What are your favorite books that the bookstore sells and why?  

A:   I like fiction books - suspense, espionage and historical fiction.  I always check to see what new fiction has been donated, especially those books by my favorite authors:  Daniel Silva, Lee Child, David Ignatius, Jeffrey Archer, and Stuart Woods.  I have especially enjoyed The Clifton Chronicles series by Jeffrey Archer, and am looking forward to the next book in the series due out in February!

Q: What is something people might not know about you?   

A:  I grew up outside Chicago, and came to the east coast, where I met my husband in Boston, and where I worked as an assistant registrar for Harvard University.  We also lived in New York City for a time before we moved here when my husband's job with W.R. Grace & Company transferred him to Boca.  While in New York City, I had many interesting volunteer opportunities:  as a paralegal helping Spanish Harlem residents get divorces, with the NYC Landmarks Commission putting together photographs of buildings in the Upper East Side Historic District, and doing research for the NY Historical Society book, American Landscape and Genre Paintings in the NY Historical Society.
