"Fare hikes and service cuts are not necessary to balance this year's MBTA budget, and 
it is unacceptable to burden MBTA riders with yet ANOTHER fare hike while offering the same (or less, or worse) bad service. Adding insult to injury, MassDOT has not even criticized Governor Baker's decision to slash MBTA funding by $70m in the upcoming year - a decision that hurts riders, MA residents, and our Commonwealth's economy alike.
My feedback for the MBTA's fare hike "options" is that neither scenarios are acceptable, nor are your overall budget proposals (which include murky, incomplete mathematics & disturbing privatization schemes despite a terrible track record with contractors.)
I stand with the T Riders Union's Our MBTA Campaign. I echo their petition demands and use my "testimony" to call on you to 1) adopt their alternate proposal to balance the MBTA's budget WITHOUT hikes, cuts, or other increases; and 2) use the power of your positions to call on Governor Baker and the State House to develop new legislation to fully fund the MBTA and bring our system into a state of good repair. Thank you."
