I saw something at Bread for the City last month that has troubled me ever since: A line of people waiting outside our pantry. The shelves were empty. Now, this wasn't because we were "out" of food. Rather, we're having a hard time keeping our pantry stocked because we have two centers seeing hundreds of people a day, and only one truck to serve both of them. At our size, one truck just can't cut it anymore. So today I'm calling on you to help launch the Bread for the City Truck Fund. People waiting for long hours is not something that you have come to expect from Bread for the City. We are committed to service with dignity and respect, and that means ensuring that people don't have to wait an extra hour or two for our truck to get across town.
