2018-2020 Strategic Plan
Calgarians are ultimate hosts, and Tourism Calgary’s aspiration is to make ours the ultimate host city.

To achieve that, we will market Calgary in new and exciting ways. We will advocate for what’s best for the quality of life of Calgarians and our industry. We will exemplify hosting as we bring more events and people to Calgary and showcase our community spirit. And, we will activate experiences in ways that attract, connect and inspire.

At our annual townhall sessions on Dec. 6, Tourism Calgary CEO, Cindy Ady, shared the new strategic plan for 2018-2020 , which will execute on the Destination Strategy's aim to make Calgary the ultimate host city.

Jeff Hessel, Vice President, Marketing, presented the 2018 marketing plan and research findings of the recent brand evolution project.

Thank you to our host, TELUS Spark, and industry partners who attended the sessions.

Featured Calgary White Hat Award winners:

We're happy to recognize Jim Aird, Jenalyn Atal and Valerija Salamon, Calgary White Hat Award winners, for creating memorable visitor experiences.
Jim Aird,
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire
Exceptional Service: Beverage Specialist

There’s pulling a pint and then there’s putting artistry into each delicious drink. When Jim serves a Guinness, he adds a special flourish on top: a shamrock, a Flames logo, or a guest’s name. One night when a guest announced he was getting engaged, Jim wrote the names of the happy couple in beer foam and was invited to serve Guinness at their wedding! For 17 years, he’s been connecting with his customers, making special moments, or smoothing out the hectic ones. Your next pint should have a White Hat drawn on top, Jim. Congratulations!

Jenalyn Atal,
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire
Exceptional Server: Banquets | Events

Often a blur of activity, Jenalyn seeks out opportunities to pitch in with her co-workers, and enlists the help of others when the pressure is on. When a large conference group needed their dinner set-up changed within 30 minutes, Jenalyn called in the troops, including her supervisor and people from other departments, to execute the change on time. To her, its all about team work, and she will happily return the favour for colleagues who need a hand. Jenalyn wears many hats in her role, and now that includes a white Smithbilt. Congratulations!

Valerija Salamon,
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire
Exceptional Service: Culinary

In the fast-paced food industry, Valerija consistently delivers on preparedness, quality and presentation. She is a believer in preparation and likes to work a day ahead, learning how full the hotel is, and if there are any VIPs or particular allergies to know about. When lunch service was recently trimmed from the hotel restaurant, Valerija and her team stepped up their breakfast game to make it the most important meal of the day for all their guests. As a proud Calgarian and a passionate cook, we think this White Hat will look terrific with your Chef whites. Congratulations, Valerija.
