Louisiana begins business startup program for veterans
The first class of military veterans in the Louisiana Veteran Entrepreneurship Program began coursework at the program’s inaugural boot camp on October 17, with Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson, and other officials welcoming them at the Louisiana Business & Technology Center in LSU Innovation Park.

The LVEP program will enable service members leaving the military to gain intensive training in the initial boot camp, followed by long-term counseling from small business resource partners. Developed through a partnership of LED, LDVA, the Louisiana National Guard, the Louisiana Business & Technology Center, and LSU Executive Education, the program will train 19 veterans in the initial camp and an estimated 108 participants in its first year.

E. J. Ourso College graduate makes success look easy
Going from a college student to the vice president of a Fortune 500 company is no small task, but alumnus Victor Lashley makes it look easy.

Lashley graduated from LSU in 2012 and quickly worked his way up at J.P. Morgan. In just five years, he went from intern to analyst to associate and then to vice president of global trade and finance.

Creating career connections
The Office of Business Student Success’ Professional Development team collaborates with students, alumni, employers, and the LSU Olinde Career Center to create meaningful career connections.

Internships are an ideal way for students to get experience while employers take an active role in shaping future employees. Are you aware of an internship program through your employer or another organization? The Professional Development staff is happy to help promote existing experiences or assist you with the creation of a new opportunity. If an internship isn't feasible, consider allowing a student to shadow you or others in your company.

If you know of an existing internship or would be interested in creating one at your place of employment, please contact Stephanie Gandy, internship manager. Stephanie can also help those who are interested in mentoring or hosting students for a shadowing day.
