Overcoming tyranny

Every day I receive emails from people who are so frustrated about the evil things government is doing that they want to know what to do. They pray. They write letters to congressmen. They make phone calls. They fax. Nothing seems to work. True that! Nothing is working because the scoundrels in office don't care about what you think or want. They believe they know better. So when they are not listening, what do we do? The truckers had a great idea to drive around Washington, DC very slowly and gum up the works of government causing frustration and traffic jams. But the plan fizzled out when not enough truckers showed up, and the ones who did were not fully committed to the task. What to do?

The World War II vets were so frustrated with the occupant of the Oval Office shutting down the Memorials that they stormed them. With a little help from some politicians and younger vets, they went in their walkers and wheel chairs and on foot and took down the barriers. They toured the memorials and then took the barriers over to the White House where they left them in front of officers dressed in riot gear. That is a good start. That is more what we need in this country. We need people who will go to the streets and start opposing the unconstitutional and disrespectful acts of the usurpers. But then, why did it take the WWII vets to get on it like they did?

The WWII vets are a special generation. When you have survived enemy fire reigning down on you like the apocalypse and your buddies getting blown apart next to you, it changes you forever. You know that God is bigger than the enemy if you survive that. Here these men and women are nearing the end of their lives and they come back to Washington, DC and stand in the face of what has become the closest thing to an American dictatorship in our history. They feel they have nothing to lose, except the freedom and respect that this government is trying to take away from them. That is the key. Jesus told the young man in Mark 10:21 to sell all he had, give it to the poor, and "take up the cross, and follow me."

This young man asked what he had to do to receive eternal life. Jesus said you have to give up your self, take up the cross (which was very offensive for it was the most demeaning way to die), and follow him. In counting the costs, the young man could not bear to do what the Lord advised. When we see a government so large and powerful. We see it use unconstitutional agencies like the IRS to single out people and try to ruin them. When we see the government spying on our every movement on the highways and hearing what we talk about. When inconsequential critics like myself receive visits from the "FBI." The cost beyond writing letters and making phone calls becomes very high. These people can wreck your life and will take pleasure in doing it.

Until Americans feel they have nothing to lose except the freedom the government is taking away, we probably will not see an end to this tyranny. The cost is too high. Couple that with errant preaching and teaching that we must accept whatever government does, we have a lot of self to get rid of before we are ready to take up the cross. The price of freedom is great. Doing what we are commanded by the Holy Scriptures, making disciples, standing on the righteousness of Christ, overcoming evil with good are all things we can do to change things for the better. Don't be political be practical. Don't be symbolic, be sensible. Don't be emotional, be experiential. And having done all, stand. Trouble is, we are a long ways from having done all. So let's get started.
