P.J. DERMODY INSURANCE CLASSIC HELD AT CHALLENging
Heron Point Golf Links

ALBERTON, ON (August 25, 2015) - This week, the P.J. Dermody Insurance Classic, the eighteenth event of the 2015 GTA AM Tour season was hosted at Heron Point Golf Links . Heron Point Golf Links, a member of the ClubLink family, was the perfect setting to crank up the competition as the Tour played the last regular season event, prior to heading into the final six events of the season which make up the exciting, BMO World Elite Fall Swing . This highly anticipated, and most exciting contest, will see Tour players rewarded with BMO World Elite MasterCard Reward Points, along with The Tour's regular prizing...!

The Host club this week finds itself on the roster of great courses designed by Canadian architect Thomas McBroom. Heron Point, although one of his earliest, still ranks among one of his best. Around the rolling landscape of Lake Dunmark, McBroom used the landscape offered, to design a mix of three distinct themes: Carolina lowlands, Canadian parkland and a little links-style golf, with fescue-covered mounds and turbulent terrain for good measure. This variable landscape builds up to one of the greatest finishing holes in Canadian golf. Tour competitors who made the trek west of the GTA were all effusive in their comments: Heron Point is a fantastic club!!!

For the third year in row, Paul Dermody, Tour player and sponsor of this week's event, put the focus on a charity and on the greater community. Paul made a pledge to donate to the Darling Home for Kids   $10 for every birdie, $50 for every eagle made and $100 for any hole in one recorded at this event. A very worthy cause, the Darling Home for Kids provides pediatric hospice care and respite services to families in Ontario who have children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses that require complex care and/or technology-dependent care. When the competition was all tallied up, Tour players notched an incredible 51 Birdies for a total donation of $510 by P J Dermody Insurance Brokers . At the first tee, prior to their rounds, many of the players contributed to the cause, adding $730 to the day's round total of $1450. After the round, some of the players also donated their skins winnings to the Darling Home for Kids. Congratulations to all players for playing well and for supporting this worthy cause. The other way to donate is online so, if you missed contributing at the event, click the link and  Donate today .

In the Championship Flight, for a second straight week, another Tour Rookie would celebrate his first win on Tour. Johnny Collins (Fergus, ON), playing in just his second Tour event, would have a great day on the course, firing the low round of the day, scoring a round of 80. Alone, in second, Dan Findlay (Komoka, ON), made his third event on Tour a success, carding an 81. Rounding out the top three, Sang Park (Toronto, ON), who, back at the end of July, made the jump from the A to Champ-Flight. This week, Sang found success, scoring his second top three finish in his newly earned flight, with a score of 82. In the Championship Flight's season-long  Myrtle Beach Order of Merit , Michael Alderman continues to sit in top spot, with 660.0 points. John Harrington moves into second spot and now has 607.5 and, remaining in third, Ryan Taylor has 555.8 points.

In the A-Flight, it came down to exciting and extra golf, as two competitors would head to a playoff to determine this week's winner. Shavi Kahlon (Brooklin, ON), coming off a second place finish last week, and Paul Corner (Toronto, ON), who found success early in the month in winning The Golf Lab Open, both finished today's round with scores of 81. The two would head to the 18th hole, for the second time today. Both would par the hole and return to the 18th for what would be the last time. Shavi hit two very good shots to get to the green in regulation. His two putt sealed the victory and provided him with his first win of the 2015 season. To determine third place, card matching was required, as two players would enter the clubhouse with matching rounds of 82: Brian Provencal (Oakville, ON), and Grant Fraser (Burlington, ON). The result of matching the back nine scores would see Brian claim third place. Brian also helped The Darling Home for Kids by carding FOUR birdies on the day!!!. The A Flight's Myrtle Beach Order of Merit  sees Mike Hubbs remain in top spot, with a commanding lead of 734.2 points. Jumping into second, Shavi Kahlon has 465.0 points and, slipping down one into third spot, Matt Ward has 445.7 points.

In the B-Flight, Tour sponsor, competitor, and P J Dermody Insurance Brokers client, Andrew Mitchell (Toronto, ON), would be, in his words, speechless, when he was crowned the winner of the P.J. Dermody Insurance Classic. This was Andrew's first ever Tour victory..! Andrew had one of those days he would not soon forget, firing on all cylinders, having a fantastic day and carding an 81, which would best the field by two. If the win was not enough, he would come home to banners (created by his wife Laura and new family addition Anna..!) celebrating his achievement. Way to go Andrew!!! To determine second and third places, card matching was required, as two players had matching rounds of 83: Kevin Allen (Annan, ON), and Brad Golden (Toronto, ON). The result of matching the back nine scores would see Kevin capture second place. Brad would celebrate third place by taking home the Mill Street beer and TaylorMade Balls. In the B-Flight's  Myrtle Beach Order of Merit , Bob Chapman remains in top spot, with 581.3 points. Holding on to second place, Frank O'Brien has 447.9 points and, remaining in the top three, Jeremey Choi has 394.2 points.

In the C-Flight, The Tour would celebrate something that has only happened once before. We would have a woman, and Tour Rookie, Sandy Zajac (Etobicoke, ON) win an event...!! Playing in just her fourth Tour event, Sandy would keep her errors to a minimum and finish her day by carding a round of 88 and a one-stroke victory. The Tour and all her fellow C-Flight players, would like to offer Sandy, our sincerest congratulations on her outstanding play and her victory...! Alone, in second, Christian Anderson (Barrie, ON), scored his fourth top three finish of the season, with a round of 89. To determine third place, card matching was required, as three players had matching rounds of 92: Mark Matusiak (Toronto, ON), Brian Nash (Scarborough, ON) and John Baty (Toronto, ON). The result of matching the back nine scores would see Mark take third place. T he C-Flight's  Myrtle Beach Order of Merit continues to see Robert Perri holding down top spot, with 716.3 points. Sitting in second, Jay White has 635.0 points and, holding on to third, Mark Matusiak has 575.0 points.

Another one of the many ways to win on Tour is by Net score. Net score prizing is calculated across all players who did not place in the top three gross-scoring positions in their respective Flights. The top two net winners, at each event, will receive one dozen TaylorMade golf balls and one case (24) of Mill Street beer. This week's winners were Ravi Ragbeer and Brian Nash, both with a net 68. In addition to the season-long Gross Score, Myrtle Beach Order of Merit, players will compete for a parallel, season-long Net Score Order of Merit . After the seventeenth event, Robert Perri of the C-Flight holds onto first place with 825.5 points and in second Mike Hubbs of the A-Flight has 819.5. For  complete standings, click on the link.

The winner of the closest-to-the-pin competition was Andrew Mitchell, winning a dozen TaylorMade golf balls. The winner of the Mazda Hole in One, closest to the pin contest, where all players have a chance to win a $2,500 sponsor product shopping spree, was Paul Corner. Along with these prizes, TaylorMade, Adams Golf and Mill Street Brewery products are awarded to the top 3 finishers in each of the four Flights. The Tour also awards a draw prize at each event for a $50 certificate redeemable at the Mill Street Brew Pub. This event's winner of the Mill Street Brewery Certificate was Vico Singh.
