Teaching Adult Students How to Determine Real or Fake News
A recent LINCS Community thread posed the question, "How do we know if it's real or fake news?" A Stanford University study, last month, showed that over 80% of middle school and high school students could not distinguish between real and fake news. Some adult education students similarly struggle with this as well. So what can we adult educators do to help our students?
Here are some resources identified in the LINCS thread that teachers may want to use with their students:
Teaching Tips and Resources
Tech Tips for Teachers changes websites
The Tech Tips for Teachers blog has moved but will continue to share practical ideas for using technology and best practices in the adult education classroom. Past posts will still be available and current subscribers will continue to get emails about new posts. The new website is edtech.worlded.org/blog
Submit your student success stories
What better way to start off 2017 than to read about the successes we are having in adult education across Pennsylvania? If you helped a student reach a goal this year, let others draw encouragement and inspiration from the good work of your agency. Send a paragraph to Matt Manfred at [email protected]
Instructional Coaching
Why have a coach? The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching reminds us that many professions use coaches as a strategy to build expertise in a specific field. Adult education professionals use coaches as well. The Pennsylvania Association of Career and Technical Administrators has a great document that describes the Ten Roles of Coaches. These roles also apply to the coaches in the Pennsylvania Adult Education Professional Development System. If you think a coach could enhance your practice, contact your lead consultant.
