Welcome to the PARIM Newsletter!  This newsletter highlights  PARIM news, events, and important information for Residents.

Call for Special Meeting
Did you know the current structure and by-laws governing PARIM were created in the 1970s?  
The membership of PARIM has been asked to decide if a Special Meeting should take place to consider changes to our governance structure. 
For details of the proposed changes, please click here.  And please respond to our survey (emailed on March 24) if you have not already.  When we have the results finalized, we will announce the next steps.
Upcoming Events
PARIM Wellness book club
When April 10, 7 pm
Where: Fools and Horses, 379 Broadway
Details: Join us for our third PARIM Wellness Book Club to discuss "Lily and the Octopus", by Steven Rowley.  A whimsical, hilarious, and touching tale about a man struggling with the loneliness of everyday existence and his relationship with his aging companion Lily, who happens to be a dog.  This is a book about friendship, how it feels to love fiercely, and how difficult it can be to let go. P ARIM Heritage Classic
When: March 31, 6:30 pm
Where: Corydon Community Center,
1370 Grosvenor Ave
Details: Attendings and Residents Hockey game. Teams/Format to be determined, though teams will be a combination of both Attendings and Residents (ie. NOT Attendings vs Residents). Start time is flexible and will depend on number of participants. Sign up at  http://www.tinyurl.com/parimhockey.
Come out to the PARIM party at Confusion Corner Bar and Grill at 9:30pm after the Heritage Classic for a drink or two with colleagues - on PARIM!!!

End of Year PARIM Party

Resident of the Month
  Did you know?

Congratulations to Dr. Andrea Wilson, PGY1, Family Medicine, our resident of the month for January 2017 and to Dr. Signey Homes, PGY4 Radiology, our resident of the month for February 2017!
  CMA General Council
Doctors Manitoba is sponsoring residents to attend the CMA General Council meeting in Quebec City, Aug 20-23.   There are three positions available for general memberships.  If you are interested in attending, please submit a brief report to [email protected] by April 30.  Detailed criteria are available here.

Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC)
 The Canadian Conference on Medical Education will be hosted in Winnipeg this year. If you are planning to attend the CCME conference from April 29-May 2, 2017 at the Convention Centre please feel free to attend the Resident Doctors of Canada Awards Ceremony on April 30th. Come honour individuals who have made a significant contribution to improving residents lives in Canada! Please RSVP to the event if interested in attending! The Resident Doctors of Canada call for volunteers will be approaching quickly. If you are interested in becoming a liaison or committee member these are great opportunities to become involved on a NATIONAL level! RDoC is working on other great initiatives including:  
  • Residency wellness and resiliency training! The last training session occurred in Ottawa March 18-19th! Highlights of the pilot project will be presented at CCME on May 1, 2017. 
  • Practice Committee is working with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) to develop a professionalism symposia. The symposia will be experiential and practical scenarios around four topics: speaking up / teams / delegation, disclosing harm, documentation, informed consent / discharge. There are practice committee representatives involved with each topic. The symposia will be piloted at North York General Hospital for family medicine residents in May 2017, launched in Toronto for all residents in fall 2017, then rolled out across the country.  
  • Concerns around capacity for and communication with residents looking to complete the MCCQE2 examination.
  • Learner data privacy protection on several fronts including CaRMS, new Royal College e-portfolios to be used for collection of resident assessment data in CBD, and the Accreditation Management System, new software to be used for the purposes of accrediting.
