PATH Intl. Office in Orlando!
After months of preparation and anticipation, the 2013 PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting is finally here! The majority of the office staff is attending the conference in Orlando, although there are a few staffers still in Colorado. There is limited availability to phones and emails for the conference staff, so we thank you for your patience as we work on answering your questions and helping you with any needs you have. For most office staff, business will resume as normal November 11.
Two Scholarship Opportunities for PATH Intl. Instructors
The EQUUS Foundation is pleased to announce the PATH Intl. Champion of Equine Service Certification Scholarship to financially assist prospective instructors who achieve champion status to obtain a PATH Intl. Registered Instructor Certification. The EQUUS Foundation will award one scholarship to cover the registration fee up to $1,000 for the recipient to attend a PATH Intl. Registered Instructor Certification Workshop.

CHAMPIONS is the EQUUS Foundation's incentive-based equine service volunteer program, sponsored by Ariat International, to recognize and reward individuals and organizations on the Foundation's Equine Welfare Network.

PATH Intl. members can achieve champion status by volunteering a minimum of 24 hours for an organization or organizations on the Equine Welfare Network between January 1 and December 31. Prospective instructors who achieve champion status by December 31, 2013, will be eligible for the scholarship to be awarded in 2014. For more information about the champions program and the PATH Intl. Scholarship, visit the EQUUS website.

logo PATH Intl. will continue an innovative partnership with the American Paint Horse Foundation designed to help train therapeutic riding instructors. This alliance, which was founded in 2013, provides scholarship assistance to potential PATH Intl. instructors of therapeutic riding. While open to anyone with skills in equine management, horsemanship, instruction, teaching methods and disabilities, preference for scholarships will be given again to medical professionals.

The average cost of registration for a PATH Intl. certification workshop and test, which takes place over three days, is $800. The American Paint Horse Foundation seeks to assist individuals interested in certification through the application and acceptance of one-time, $800 scholarships.

Learn more about how the foundation benefits the lives of American Paint Horses and their enthusiasts at aphfoundation.org.

To apply for an American Paint Horse Foundation PATH Intl. scholarship, email Jan Anderson or call her at (817) 222-6414. Applications should be postmarked by March 1, 2014. Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 15, 2014.

PATH Intl. Highlighted on Special Needs Website

PATH Intl. is highlighted in a collection of great groups and activities for those with special needs. This collection, "101 Top Special Needs Groups, Camps and Activities," is featured on "PhD in Special Education," a site that provides resources to those pursuing online degrees in education. "We hope this list becomes a useful resource for our main audience of current and prospective special education teachers, as well as anyone else who takes an interest in providing opportunities for fun, social activity to those with special needs," said Sarah Paulson, representing the editorial team.

Congratulations to all our centers! Make sure to share this website (and article) with your participant families and communities.

PATH Intl. Strides and National Publication Feature Center

Recently, PATH Intl. Strides featured Ride Kind Therapeutic Riding, a PATH Intl. Center in Monsey, NY, in its Fall 2013 issue, "Ride Kind: An Unorthodox Approach to the Orthodox" by center founder Dana Mase (pg. 40). Ride Kind also had the honor of being featured in National Council of Young Israel Viewpoint (Fall 5774/2013, pg. 27), a national publication in the Jewish community. In the article "Equestrian Therapy: Healing through Horses," author Esther Altmann discusses the physical, emotional and cognitive benefits of therapeutic horsemanship for those with special needs.

Click to Help Horses

EQUUS Foundation, a PATH Intl. sponsor, is participating in Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. Matching Campaign. EQUUS Foundation is asking all horse lovers to click this link every day from Oct. 14-Nov. 12. No donation is required, just a simple click. Equus Foundation is the only charity partnering with Animal Planet to represent horses. More clicks for EQUUS Foundation equals more funding for equine organizations. Click away, and thank you!

Webinars for All Evaluators

There are two mandatory webinars for this year. "Report Writing" presented by Sandy Webster is now available in a recorded version. Denise Fager sent everyone the link so you can view it anytime. If you didn't receive it, please let Denise know and she will resend it.

The other webinar is "Exit Interviews," also presented by Sandy Webster, which was held last week and was full of great information. There was such a tremendous response and so many good questions that we've decided to hold another live one on Thursday, November 21st at 5 p.m. MST. Please mark your calendars! It will be available in a recorded version as well, but that isn't nearly as much fun as connecting and swapping ideas! Watch your email for information on signing up for this webinar. Happy viewing!
