Palm Beach Dramaworks

Feeds the Horses

of the

Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit

Palm Beach Dramaworks' production of Sam Shepard's  Buried Child is providing a special treat to the horses of the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit. At each performance, 20 carrots are peeled and 24 ears of corn are shucked onstage; that  translates to 160 carrots and 192 ears of corn per week. FreshPoint produce generously agreed to donate the vegetables, delivering four cases of corn and two cases of carrots every Wednesday during the run of the play.

The produce is not eaten during the show, and PBD did not want to see the food go to waste. Production Manager Patrick Heydenberg reached out to the PBSO Mounted Unit, which was delighted to accept the veggies. Heydenberg personally feeds the horses three times a week, and says, "The horses show excitement when I arrive, knowing they are about to be fed. As I left last week, promising to be back, one of the officers said, 'Thanks. The horses really appreciate it!"

Buried Child continues at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre through April 26.
