PCDA WEEKLY UPDATE
This Week
HEARTS & FLOWERS......in preparation of next week's Valentine's Day, PCDA style.  The regular PCDA Board of Trustees meeting was this week and there was much love in the room with talk of buildings, hangars and other projects.  Possibly you had to be there, and that is completely possible for our next regularly scheduled board meeting scheduled for Thursday, March ninth.  But make sure to set your alarm, cause our meetings get going at 7:30 am.  Other economic development hearts & flower type things happening this week included more convos about Smith Bits employees (please call if your company is looking for skilled and trained manufacturing employees; we have resumes), PYE in the SKY (see below for more info), CIty Center grant information gathering, street concrete, underground wiring, overhead stoplights and investigation of a database or two. Somewhere in there, staff may have stopped for a bite of chocolate and a sniff of roses.  Sending happy thoughts off to a new local company heading out of town in search of clients, continuing preparations for the Design-2-Part show in Grapevine, TX, visiting Wildcat Academy students and staff's week was complete. For all those budding entrepreneurs out there in Ponca City land, make sure to check out the information below on the Small Business Competition happening in April!
Manufacturing Spotlight
THIS WEEK....... the spotlight is on MJ&H Fabrication located in at the corner of Sykes and Hall Blvd, front and center of the Sykes Blvd extension road project.  M J & H is a vessel, skid and structural steel fabrication company specializing in large, hard to design and build vessels and is certified and registered with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.   This company moved to Ponca City a little over three years ago and hasn't looked back since. Two years ago they were building their current manufacturing and office space which is 68,000 square feet of building.  Last year, PCDA and a bunch of other people came out to see the biggest tank ever start its voyage first on truck and then by barge to Louisiana.  Moving the 28 foot tall, 100 foot long tank out of Ponca City entailed moving electrical lines, lowering stoplights, a lot of stopped traffic and a few video moments.  And that was only Ponca City.   MJ&H continues to grow by building and shipping big tanks to various parts of this country and others.  This company does onsite installation and repairs to all size tanks.  This week, picture below, they were moving out a smaller container, only a measly 23 feet in diameter.  MJ&H 's workforce is over 100 employees working in their Ponca City location or out in the field.
Construction in the Airport Industrial Park
PCDA HEARTS SOD.....  as this is the final component on the Cookshack parking lot project, we think.  Cookshack is not waiting on PCDA to finish the outside to put out product, but staff does want a pretty building for them to come to work in, hence the sod.  With the slope of the hills around the building, grass will be welcome when the rain hits; Even if those same hills encourage creative machine handling (picture on the right).

WILDCAT ACADEMY.. was on the schedule this week for PoncaWorks.  Getting these students ready to enter the workforce, staff introduced them to the world of manufacturing measurements.  Students will train on lasers, lathes, mills and welding equipment to get them ready to handle an actual manufacturing project from a local company.   Other visits this week included businesses with employees under the age of 40 to invite them to the PYE in the Sky get together on Thursday, February 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the City Center.  PYE is short for Ponca Young Employees and free babysitting is being provided for those who have kiddos.   Interested?  RSVP to Liz at 580-716-2147 or send her an e-mail.
