Worship with us this Sunday!
Worship with us this Sunday - the second Sunday of Advent! Traditional Worship at 9:30am and Informal Worship at 11:00am. Gather at our Advent Wreath as we light our second candle - the candle of PEACE. Our scriptures are Isaiah 11:1-10 and Matthew 3:1-12 with a sermon entitled Roots, Shoots and Fruits. Why Jesus? Who-What-Where-Why-When-How? Celebrate the sacrament of communion at our open table.

2nd Mile Advent: This Sunday, Jill Schatz will share about the   International Institute -Jill Schatz

Eden Student worshiping with PUCC
Beginning December 4, Lal Fak Mawia (he goes by Mawia,  pronounced  Moy-A ) will join us as a guest at Parkway UCC while he is a Masters of Theological Studies student at Eden (approximately two years). Mawia is from Myanmar and is a pastor in the Methodist Church in Myanmar. He is very interested in contemporary worship styles so he will frequently attend the 11:00 service. Mawia also travels to minister to Burmese Christian communities in Columbia, MO and Indiana from time to time, so he will not be able to join us every week.
Eden 's international students are all graduate level students (most are ordained pastors in their countries of origin) studying in the U.S. to earn a Masters of Theological Studies (MTS), allowing them to teach when they return home. Note, this is different than the "Contextual Education" placement of Masters of Divinity students who have participated as student ministers at Parkway.
Mawia is quiet and reflective man, with deep faith and a long professional career in ministry. Please welcome Mawia and get to know him - we hear he has a great sense of humor when he feels comfortable sharing. If you would like to participate in the rotation to drive Mawia between Eden and PUCC on Sunday mornings and/or for other church events, please contact Jill Schatz ( or 815- 546-7648) or Lisa Mason ( or 314-395-4444).
Advent Devotion - you're an author for 2017!
As we find ways to be fully present to each day in Advent-an active waiting approach, we would like your help. Please consider being part of our homemade PUCC Advent Devotion Booklet 2017. We are seeking submissions for next year now. Here's what are looking for-300 word (plus or minus) reflection on something you saw, felt, remembered, dreamed about during Advent-this time of preparation for Jesus to be born again. Please align/support/enhance your reflection with an appropriate verse(s) of scripture. End your piece with a brief prayer.
Please feel free to send a photo, drawing, artwork, original song or some other creative expression too! Thank you! Please contact 314-872-9330 if you have questions and/or would like to talk through any of this.

Neighbors helping Neighbors: Adopt a Family from the International Institute
Through December 16
PUCC is partnering with Shaare Emeth to help two refugee families feel welcome and prepare for their first Missouri winter.
When refugee families arrive in St. Louis, the International Institute provides basic household items, furniture, and bus passes using a small government allocation received on the individual's behalf. However, families' initial apartments are quite sparse and budgets are tiny so the Institute looks to the community for additional help. In addition to winter accessories, blankets, art and school supplies and easy books (to learn English), the families need monetary assistance to pay for their apartment and utilities.
Let's show these refugee families the generosity and love of our community -any help will be greatly appreciated. Visit the following website for the list of needs and to sign up to help:

Video of the Week
Ginny's Gems: Happy first anniversary to our ministry in the Missouri Mid-South Conference! Woohoo! My video is from San Antonio at the AM21, which is the churchy description of Authorized Ministry in the 21st Century. I can't think of a better way to celebrate our ministry together than attend this conference with conference ministry staff and the national UCC staff. I asked the Rev. Holly MillerShank, the Team Leader of Ministerial, Excellence, Support, Authorization (MESA) team to speak to us about our Conference Ministry theme, "Living Our Change!" She talked about the importance of discernment in the midst of our change. She referenced a wonderful resource for local churches and search committees to use during time of discernment. It is found in United Church Resources. As we discern the Holy Spirit's movement through prayer, scripture, and reflection, discernment allows us to listen for God's presence in our change. May we continue to discern God's presence as we are Living Our Change together as the Missouri Mid-South Conference! Blessings, Ginny

Youth Night
Wednesdays | 6:30pm | Fellowship Hall
Have you ever had a moment or experience when you felt the true presence of God in your life? We are looking for people to share their faith experiences through a personal story, life event, family tradition, scripture reading, poem or song. You would present your experience in a 2-3 minute presentation during both church services. These will be on the second Sunday of each month. Sharing the experiences will help us gain a deeper understanding of each other and how God has touched your life. We hope many of you will participate and be willing to present your experience in the upcoming months. For more details and scheduling your time to share, please contact Helen Race phone 314-401-4382 or Karen Boyd

Q: What do you get when you decorate for Christmas?
The True Self is all about right relationship, not requirements. It's not about being correct; it's about being connected, which you always were--you just didn't realize it. -Richard Rohr
