Support Group for Child Victims of Sexual Abuse Helps Heal Families

PEI Kids' Crisis Intervention for Child Victims of Sexual Abuse program offers a bi-monthly support group for child victims of sexual assault and non-offending, supportive family members. As a special program for this group, there is a monthly Mother/Daughter workshop. During these sessions, stronger bonds between the child victims and their family members are built. After recent program analysis for the Mother/Daughter program, we found that 100% of female caregivers report a better understanding of the impact of sexual abuse on behavior, and 85% of girls report having more positive body awareness and acceptance of themselves. During these sessions, bonding activities take place, such as a movie night last September, which attracted 26 participants; and an Arbonne beauty and pampering session that took place in July, which attracted 60 participants! Attendance has doubled over the last few years, and participants comment that the group is a highlight of their counseling experience at PEI Kids.

Get Involved: Become an Enough Abuse Trainer!

PEI Kids is currently recruiting volunteer trainers for our Enough Abuse Campaign. Those interested will attend a two-day training, where they will learn the curricula and history of the Campaign. After the training, volunteers will help PEI Kids educate the Mercer County community on the prevention and warning signs of child sexual abuse. To date, our trainers have educated over 500 adults in the Greater Mercer area and plan to educate an additional 300 adults in the coming months.
