Hello!

Please take a few minutes to learn how you can help improve the Public Employees' Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS) Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) notice process; how you can ensure never missing a mailing from PERS; and how you can help others stay informed about PERS.

PERS seeks your input about lump sum COLA notices

PERS mailed COLA notices out recently to inform benefit recipients of changes being made to their monthly or lump sum COLA amount--depending on how they receive their COLA--as well as the projected amount to be withheld in taxes.

Monthly COLA recipients can make tax withholding changes throughout the year; but, lump sum COLA recipients must make tax withholding changes by October 31 of each year so that their change will be in effect for their annual payment in December. Because of this, we routinely send COLA notices out in the summer to give enough time for review and request submission.

This process is designed to provide information and be helpful to our lump sum COLA benefit recipients; however, we want to know if you think this process could be improved. Therefore, we ask our lump sum COLA benefit recipients to answer the question below then click the button below the answers to e-mail us any suggestions for improvement they may have.

Keeping your information current with PERS is important

Keeping PERS up to date with changes to your name, address, spouse, and beneficiary information allows us to provide you with the most efficient service possible, including timely delivery of your PERS newsletter, issuance of your annual Internal Revenue Service Form 1099-R each January, delivery of your annual COLA notice each summer, and other important mail outs from your retirement system.

For the protection of our retirees and members, PERS does not accept a change of address or change of beneficiary information over the telephone. To make a change to your account, you must notify PERS in writing by submitting a completed Form 1C, Change of Information.

If you know a PERS benefit recipient who has recently had a name, address, spouse, or beneficiary change, please pass this reminder on to him or her!

Attention: Clay County Benefit Recipients

Since mailing the COLA notices to PERS benefit recipients, PERS has received hundreds of these notices returned from the West Point, MS, area.

PERS has determined that Clay County residents underwent an Enhanced 911 (E911) address update. All individuals affected had one year to notify contacts of the new addresses, a deadline which has come and gone.

If you are one of PERS' 640 benefit recipients living in Clay County and you did not receive a COLA notice due to this address update, contact PERS. You will need to submit your address update in writing by submitting to PERS a completed Form 1C, Change of Information.
