Remember, every book you purchase earns Scholastic Dollars that will be used to purchase new books for our classrooms and media center.

Reading Under the Stars a Huge Success
More than 250 students and family members enjoyed an evening dedicated to literacy during Reading Under the Stars last Tuesday night. Students heard stories, engaged in STEAM activities, and shopped the Book Fair.
A giant THANK YOU to the 25 teachers and staff who planned this event and helped promote the wonderful sense of community at our school.

Stillmeadow Spirit Shines!
Stillmeadow School Spirit was on display last week at the MarcUS for Change 5K in Mill River Park.
So many members of the Stillmeadow community turned out for the fun run/walk that Stillmeadow won the
Spirit Award
for having the highest participation of any public school in Stamford!
The Stamford Public Education Foundation presented Stillmeadow with a trophy and awarded the school $500.
Congratulations to all participants and thank you Kristen Stops for rallying Stillmeadow families to sign up for this fun day!

Box Tops Classroom Challenge Starts Tuesday!
You can
earn funds
for Stillmeadow from
items you buy
every day. Send in the Box Tops you have collected over the last few months to raise money for the school and help your classroom win a prize!
The Box Tops for Education Classroom Challenge is October 10-20.
The classroom from each grade that turns in the most Box Tops during this period will win a special prize!
Box Tops
collection sheets
will be sent home this week. Submit your Box Top using the collection sheet and send extra Box Tops in a plastic baggie. Be come home with your child, and be sure to include your child’s name and teacher’s name. If you have extra BoxTops, they should be submitted be placed in a plastic baggie - again remember to label it with your child’s name and your teacher’s name in order to receive credit towards the competition.
Box tops must be submitted by October 20 to be included in the classroom competition.

Family Photo Fundraiser: Get your Holiday Cards Done Early!
There's still time to support Stillmeadow and get professional family photos to share with family and friends during the holiday season.
- Click here to book your family photo session with Kim Jaeckel Photography.
- 15-minute family photos sessions are available from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm next Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15.
- Photo sessions will take place at Fort Stamford Park on Westover Road.
- The session fee is $40, payable online by credit card or Paypal, or by sending a check (payable to Stillmeadow PFO) to school after you register.
- The entire session fee will be donated to Stillmeadow!
- Proofs will be available via an online portal approximately seven days after your photo shoot. Prints, digital downloads, and photo gifts starting as low as $10 may be ordered directly from Kim Jaeckel Family Photography.

Fall Volunteer Opportunities: Sign Up Today!
We need your help to staff or donate items for our Fall 2017 events. Click the links below to review volunteer opportunities and sign up.
Family Photo Days
(October 14-15) Volunteers are needed to assist families arriving for their photo session.
Halloween Hop
(October 27) Help us plan/execute this very popular party! We are looking for a Decoration Coordinator, face painter, and parents to help with set up/clean up, sign in, and running games and crafts. Volunteers work in shifts, so you can enjoy the event as well. Cake walk donations are also important, wow us with your decorating skills!
Turkey Bingo
(November 17) Volunteers are needed to donate gift baskets for the raffle.
Volunteers are also needed to staff this annual Thanksgiving-themed bingo night, including help with check-in and selling raffle tickets.
Holiday Fair
(December 12-15) More information coming soon!

Great American Smoke-Out Poster Contest
Got a little Don Draper or Peggy Olson in your family? Put their genius to work for the Great American Smoke-Out! Create an original 11x17 poster that shows why you think smoking is harmful, and you could win a prize!

Mark your calendar! Picture Day is Friday, October 20
Lifetouch photographers will be at Stillmeadow on Friday, October 20 to take individual student portraits and classroom group photos. These photos will be used in the 2017
–
18 Stillmeadow Elementary School Yearbook.
Individual student portraits can be purchased directly from Lifetouch. Look for order forms in student home folders this week or place an order online at
https://mylifetouch.com
(Stillmeadow’s Picture Day ID is EJ117046Q0). Packages start at
$20 and include a class photo.
Stillmeadow Elementary School receives a portion of the proceeds from each portrait package.

The Halloween Hop is Coming Up: Save your Spot!
A spooktacular costume party is coming to Stillmeadow on
Friday, October 27 from 6:30–8:30 pm.
The cost is $5 per person and advance registration is required.
Complete and return the

to your child’s teacher as soon as possible!

- Register early – this event sells out!
- Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.
- Children MUST BE accompanied by an adult.
