EDUCATION SERIES EVENT #2 AT VICTORIA GOLF CLUB A SUCCESS

More than 20 PGA of BC members participated in an enlightening Education Series event at the Victoria Golf Club today.

Moderator Bill Kelly introduced discussions by Olympic View Golf Club's Jeff Palmer, who drew on his experiences as former Director of Golf at Sheshan International Golf Club to provide perspective on working in the golf industry abroad. Jeff's experience as a leader at one of China's premier golf clubs has given him a deep understanding of cultural differences between North America and China, and the challenges inherent in delivering a great guest experience in foreign surroundings; Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community's Robert Ratcliffe, seen here on the right, who presented his view of Long-Term Coaching in North America, drawing from his experiences developing players at grassroots, regional, and national levels; and Jeremy Estey, founder of www.vigolf.ca who drawing from his experiences in the media, spoke to how PGA of British Columbia members can communicate better messages and build partnerships with media outlets.

Only three days remain for members to sign up for the 2014 PGA of BC Spring Education Seminar at Riverway Golf Course, February 17-18th. At only $59 for members, the Spring Seminar once again shows great value to members in the Association's Education program.

 

Kicking off this year's event will be Erik Peterson, Director of Communication at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon. Erik will present on his experiences from a Marketing, Branding, Public Relations, and Guest Service perspectives and share why Bandon Dunes continually ranks amongst one of the most highly regarded golf resorts in the world. 

 

Following Peterson will be Scott Kolb and Winston Michell of Fresh Golf Solutions, presenting to a topic titled "Preparing yourself for the next stage of your career". The duo will focus on some "Best Practices" to better prepare members in Interviewing for their next big steps in the Golf Industry. 

 

The afternoon on Day 1 will feature PGA of America member and Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher Brian Manzella from New Orleans, Louisiana. The popular instructor and long-time friend of David Toms will share his knowledge and findings on science of the golf swing, teaching with technology, and analysis on teaching theories. Brian is one of the most highly sought-after speakers on golf and is excited to be coming to the Vancouver region for the very first time.   

 

The second day of the seminar will feature a full day presentation from one of the most recognizable individuals in golf -  Fred Shoemaker. Shoemaker founded Extraordinary Golf in 1990 and his book Extraordinary Golf: The Art of the Possible (1996) is amongst the most successful books ever written on golf. Shoemaker's presentations titled Creating An Environment For Accelerated Learning and Coaching vs. Teaching will provide experiences that will not soon be forgotten.

In conjunction with Fred Shoemaker's presentation at the upcoming Spring Seminar, the PGA of BC is proud to offer a special deal for PGA of BC members.

The 2014 Vancouver Golf & Travel Show will be take place February 15-16 in the Forum at the Pacific National Exhibition.

B.C. NATIONAL DIRECTOR ELECTIONS NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN
PGA of Canada LogoAll 'Class A' PGA members in the British Columbia will have an opportunity to vote for their National Director in an open and widely accessible election conducted by the PGA of Canada this April.

 

An election for the Saskatchewan and Atlantic Zones is also taking place at the same time.

 

"This spring will be a very exciting time and process for the PGA of Canada," says PGA of Canada President, Gregg Schubert. "Our new national election process gives PGA Members in the British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Atlantic Zones every opportunity to become informed on the process and vote for the person whom they see fit to be a National Director."

 

Members who meet the National Director qualifications may stand for election by completing the application form.

 

Nominations for the elections shall be closed at 5 p.m. (EST) on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014.

 

Once nominations have closed, candidates will have an opportunity to create individual profile pages on the PGA of Canada's National Elections Web Portal.

 

"Candidates will be able to host bio information, videos, blogs and other relevant information pertaining to his or her campaign," Schubert says.

 

Candidates' profiles and voting procedures will be provided in writing to the Members of the relevant Zone Association by Friday, March 21, 2014. Voting will occur online, email, fax or mail ballot over a one-week period-April 2 thru April 9, 2014.

 

Elections in three Zones will take place once every three years, with Manitoba, Northern Ontario and Ottawa happening in 2015.

PGA OF CANADA CPC COMES TO ARIZONA THIS AUTUMN

This year's Titleist & FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada is headed southwest to the Grand Canyon State.

 

The 54-hole National Championship takes place November 16-19 at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

 

BC's allocations for this Championship will once again be determined by the low Club Professional finishers at the Titleist/FootJoy PGA of BC Championship Presented by Axis Insurance Manager, contested August 25-26th at Point Grey Golf & Country Club.
