REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY 20TH EDUCATION SERIES EVENT AT THE VANCOUVER GOLF CLUB

The 2014 PGA of BC Education Series will kick off its schedule on Monday January 20th at The Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, BC.

The featured speakers include PGA of BC members Dr. Caolan Teasdale, Doug Hastie and Randy Smith.

Teasdale will speak about Golf Injuries: A Systematic Review and Treatment Interventions while Hastie will talk about What is Perfect Practice. Smith's talk will concentrate on Identifying an Optimal Emotional State for Students' Performance and his knowledge on the studies conducted by the Institute of HeartMath.

The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and will run to approximately 2 p.m. with lunch being served.

PGA of BC Members' rate is $39+GST while non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of $59+GST (inclusive of lunch). Event registration runs until Thursday, Jan. 16.

PGA OF BC BOARD OF DIRECTORS OPENING

The PGA of BC Board of Directors invites qualified members who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors to put their names forward for consideration. There is one (1) vacant position on the Board for a two-year term. Please note that this Candidates must be Class "A" Professionals to stand for this position.

 

Requirements for the position include, but not limited to:

   - Attending 4 PGA of BC Board of Directors meetings per year (3 in person, 1 conference call)

   - Attendance at PGA of BC Annual General Meeting (February 17, 2014) 

 

Expectations for the position include, but not limited to:

   - Participation in one or more PGA of BC Tournaments

   - Attendance at PGA of BC Spring Education Seminar & one or more Education Series Events  


To put your name forward for consideration, simply send an email with your biography by 12:00pm - Friday January 17th to Executive Director, Donald Miyazaki - donald@pgabc.org.

 

Once a list of candidates has been compiled, the membership will then have the opportunity to vote by online election.

VANCOUVER GOLF & TRAVEL SHOW OPPORTUNITIES

 

The 2014 Vancouver Golf & Travel Show will be take place February 15-16 in the Forum at the Pacific National Exhibition.

This Show will once again give PGA of BC Members the opportunities to market their services, programs, and facilities. The PGA of BC will conduct complimentary lessons for attendees, as well as scheduled Seminars presented by PGA of BC members throughout the Show.

In addition, this year's show will once again feature the PGA of BC Retail Centre, opening up retail opportunities to the more than 10,000 attendees that attend the show.

CLASS "A" EXAM EXTENSION

Elite Apprentices who are already eligible to write their Class "A" exam now have until Jan. 31, 2014 to write the exam.


Note: This is only offered to those Apprentices who received eligibility letters by December 31, 2013. 

 

If Elite Apprentices do not write their exam by the extended January 31st deadline, their membership will be transferred into PACE and they will be required to complete all Core Competencies included within.

 

Apprentices wishing to write their exam in January can schedule times between January 13-31 in our Richmond office.

NEW GROOVE RULES IN EFFECT JANUARY 1, 2014

A reminder to all members that effective January 1, 2014, the PGA of BC and the PGA of Canada have adopted the proposed changes to the new groove rules for all competition, as proposed by the United States Golf Association and Golf Canada in 2010. It has been recommended by most clubs that they adopt this rule, effective on this recommended date.

2014 PDP RACE BEGINS ANEW

The PGA of BC is in the last stages of finalizing the results of the 2013 Professional Development Points standings, with the final Order of Merit scheduled to be released shortly.

But for those PGA of BC members eager to get a head start on the 2014 PDP race, now's the time to start thinking about registering for education classes which will give you PDP points, volunteering at Education Series events, speaking or presenting at events or volunteering for the Vancouver Golf Show.

CONGRATULATIONS

The holidays were a particularly festive time for several PGA of BC members and friends. The administration office would like to recognize and congratulate the following members on their exciting news.

PGA of BC Board of Director Chad Scott (The Harvest Golf Club) and his wife Julie announced the news that they will be expecting their first child in late July.

Alan Palmer (Shaughnessy Golf & Country club) announced the engagement to his girlfriend Megan, with plans to wed late September in New Orleans.

Steve Liddicoat's (Bowen Island Golf Club) girlfriend Shannon said "yes" to him after Steve proposed to her shortly following the couple recently purchased their first home.

Former PGA of BC Communications & Membership Manager, now Golf Sales Manager at Bear Mountain Golf Resort, Chris Currie got down on one knee to long-time girlfriend Jennifer in November and the newly engaged couple have started their exciting wedding plans.

DID YOU KNOW?

 

Now that it's 2014, individuals wishing to join the PGA of Canada can start applying to become a Candidate for Membership by going to the PGA of Canada website and registering online. Once the registration is complete and the application fee paid, an individual is considered an Applicant and can access the Applicants Only Section of the website which will guide them through the requirements to become a "Candidate for Membership" (CFM).

Registrations are accepted between now and June 1.

Application is valid for one year from date of application or a maximum of five PAT opportunities. Please click here on more details on how to become an Applicant.
