Summer Crew
April showers bring May flowers, so it's said. We have had lots of showers, so I guess it's only right that we have lots of flowers, about 260 flats worth! Luckily we have a great crew of summer help to get things planted. Pictured, starting with the back row from the left is our three recent St. Charles East High School graduates with plans to attend ECC this fall, James, Jacob and Colin. Filling out the back row is Ben, who will be a senior at Kaneland High School and Frank, who will be a junior at East. In the front row is Jacob, college junior at Kansas and in the orange with the big smile on his face is Jack, our newest volunteer. Planting all of the flowers in a timely manner can be a little overwhelming, but this group hung in there and got the job done. Good job guys!
Now that the summer help is here, we are going to tackle a few projects that have been on the back burner. One goal is to be a "Buckthorn Free Golf Course" by the end of June. Buckthorn is an invasive plant that will crowd out and take over anywhere it's growing. We will also be doing some fence repair, sodding around the bunker edges, mulching, edging, and watering and weeding all those flowers! Happy Golfing!
