POD SUMMER 2018
WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
at TILLINGHAST FARM

Teens love our annual summer field trip to RISD's Tillinghast Farm in Barrington, RI. In the watercolor workshop, teens learn to paint in plein air, and afterwards they enjoy a picnic and spend time at the beach!

PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGING with THE COLLEGE CRUSADE

In July, we held another great installment of POD's Photographic Imaging course with the College Crusade of Rhode Island, led by local photographer and POD Teaching Artist Scott Lapham and assisted by photographer and teaching assistant Edwin Pastor. You can read all about the week and our work with The College Crusade in their recent blog post:

DECORDOVA SCULPTURE PARK + MUSUEM

This summer POD took its first field trip to the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum i n Lincoln, Massachusetts. Despite being a really hot day, teens enjoyed exploring the grounds and discovering all the sculptures scattered throughout the park. We were even able to get a tour of the museum. Thanks to the deCordova for having us!
POD + HASBRO
SUMMER DESIGN STUDIO
See many more pictures from our amazing week with Hasbro on our Facebook page:

Each morning for during our second week-long Summer Design Studio, Hasbro designers came to the POD studio to share their story and their professional work with POD teens. Through presentations, demonstrations, design challenges and interactions with designers, teens uncovered the entire design process, from brainstorming and sketching to production, marketing and presenting. In the afternoons, teens worked with these new found skills to create their own toy or game. By the end of the week each teen had developed their very own product and presented it to the group. Their presentations and final products were truly impressive. We even fit in a tour of Hasbro! Many thanks to everyone at the Hasbro team who took the time to share their passion for their work, and to Christine Enos, POD's teaching artist who guided the teens in their own making journey. Can't wait for next year!
POD Programming Fall 2018
September is a busy but exciting time of year as the school year speeds up and the weather cools down. This fall POD will be running two after-school programs for partner schools, Charles E. Shea High School in Pawtucket and for Woonsocket High School .

Additionally, we will be adding another section to our Saturday Portfolio program, this strategic move enables us serve to serve 75 teens, increased from 50, from approximately 15 public and public charter high schools in our target area.

We will also be working in partnership with the Department of Teaching + Learning in Art + Design (TLAD) and RISD's Nature Lab in bringing unique school-day programming to teens from The Met School in Providence. POD and RISD also welcomes a great cohort of MA and MATs in the Department of Teaching + Learning in Art + Design who will work with POD in a variety of ways throughout their year at RISD.

We look forward to keeping you updated on all our programs and POD news in our upcoming newsletters!
