UNLEASH YOUR GOD-GIVEN POTENTIAL

A Graduation Message from

Curt Riske, School Chaplin

Dear Class of 2014,

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, or ever and ever! Amen" Ephesians 3:20-21

The story is told of a man who one day was walking on a farm and noticed an eagle living among the chickens.  He stopped and asked the farmer why the eagle was living among the chickens.  The farmer replied that he had found the eagle when it was very young, began giving it chicken feed and trained it to be a chicken.  Since then, it had behaved like a chicken and never learned to fly.

"Still it must have the heart of an eagle," replied the man, "and can surely be taught to fly."  So he asked if he might have the eagle.  He took the eagle to a high mountain and lifted it up to see if it would fly.  The eagle was shaking and wouldn't move.  Just then, it saw two more eagles soaring overhead.  When the eagle saw them, it stretched its wings, began to flap them, jumped and soared into the heavens.

The eagle never knew its potential until it was encouraged by others to live it out.  In much the same way, many students are resigned to the identity they have been given by their circumstances.  They never know their real identity or their potential.

POP Seniors, you have completed your High School education.  Each of you is an "Eagle." Some of you are like the eagle who thinks and acts like a chicken.  You may not yet have found your true identity.  You are still trying to be what you think others want or even train you to be. Some of you are soaring eagles who can encourage others to be all that God created them to be.

Our word of encouragement to each of you is to find your true identity in Christ and through His power learn how to live it out.  You may think you need to be someone other than your true self. Others may be training or encouraging you to be what they need or desire you to be.  You are not a chicken.  You are an "Eagle."  Put your hope and trust in the Lord.  He will give you daily strength.  He will empower you to soar like the Eagle He created you to be.  Enjoy your flight!
