August 2015 Newsletter Entrepreneurs in the natural health and living sector often demonstrate a strong predisposition toward ethical business practices. It seems that not only do they strive to promote sustainable products and services, thus helping consumers and the planet, but they often do so in a manner that puts people and planet before profit. Here is a case in point. My kitchen is filled with fermentation vessels bubbling with vegetables, grains, beverages and more. I have been making yogurt for many years and not long ago I ordered some traditional yogurt cultures. Unfortunately, my first batches did not come out as expected and thus the cultures could not be kept viable. I emailed the retailer, a small family-run business called Culture Mother, to see if perhaps I had done anything wrong, and without even questioning my technique, they shipped me 3 new cultures at their expense. It seems more often than not that it is the small businesses with few resources that make the biggest compromises to support their customers and the environment. When choosing your next service or product provider, please consider supporting small local businesses. Thanks for reading and enjoy the newsletter! Todd N. Howard President

Organic Fair Trade Tea for Wholesale
Pacific Rim College has partnered with Victoria-based Level Ground Trading to help support tea growers in India. Level Ground Trading trades fairly and directly with small-scale producers in developing countries, thus offering their customers ethical choices for teas, coffees, spices, and more. Due to a warehouse overstock in tea, they are unable this year to purchase tea from their farmers in India. We want to get them back to buying, and to do so we are selling 1kg boxes of their teas at the wholesale price of $31 (most teas retail for 3-5 times that much!). All teas are produced without pesticides and are purchased directly from the families that grow them. Until the end of September, stop by the college to sample and purchase the following varieties: black, green, early grey, smoked black, chai and lemongrass. If you are not in Victoria, you can order online directly from Level Ground Trading.
