September 2015 Newsletter If you care about our planet, daily media is saturated with disheartening headlines. A quick glance at one of Canada's most important magazines, Common Ground, brings to attention some terribly broken things in our society: animal trophy hunting, the tar sands' destructive legacy, influence of Big Pharma, and rampant bribing in politics. For a scant few today, these headlines are a call to action; hopefully, as our communities and ecosystem increasingly need our help, more and more will respond with action. If you feel you are ready to respond but don't know where to begin, you don't have to look far for initiatives that could use your support. Here are a few that continually fight on the front lines: Dogwood Initiative, Surfrider Foundation, and Idle No More. Sponsor, participate or simply increase your awareness. Every little bit can help end corruption in our societies and needless destruction. Thanks for caring and enjoy the newsletter! Todd N. Howard President
Welcome to New Students
We are pleased to warmly welcome approximately 100 new full-time students to Pacific Rim College this fall! As always, we aim to help these new students to become healthcare leaders of the future. Thus far we have trained students from more than 40 countries, many of whom who have taken much needed skills in natural healthcare back to their home country and communities. Many of our fall semester programs reached their capacity, thus if you are considering studying at Pacific Rim College in 2016, submit your admissions application as soon as possible. We operate on a rolling admissions basis and thus enrolment spaces are filled as applications are approved.
Good Luck to Our Graduates
PRC celebrated the graduation of more than 80 students during a recent convocation ceremony in Market Square, which was keynoted by Victoria Mayor and community activist Lisa Helps. Organic Fair Trade Tea for Wholesale
Pacific Rim College has partnered with Victoria-based Level Ground Trading to help support tea growers in India. Level Ground Trading trades fairly and directly with small-scale producers in developing countries, thus offering their customers ethical choices for teas, coffees, spices, and more. Due to a warehouse overstock in tea, they are unable this year to purchase tea from their farmers in India. We want to get them back to buying, and to do so we are selling 1kg boxes of their teas at the wholesale price of $31 (most teas retail for 3-5 times that much!). All teas are produced without pesticides and are purchased directly from the families that grow them. Until the end of September, stop by the college to sample and purchase the following varieties: black, green, earl grey, smoked black, chai and lemongrass. If you are not in Victoria, you can order online directly from Level Ground Trading.
