League of Women Voters to Host Luncheon to Educate Public about its Sisters Across the Straits and Global Democracy Programs

WHO: League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund (LWVFEF) and League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS)

WHAT: A Celebration of Sisterhood: Sisters Across the Straits Luncheon featuring:

Dr. Blanca Munster, Researcher, Centre for World Economy Studies (CIEM) of Cuba

This event will include information about the League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund's cultural exchange program with Cuba - Sisters Across the Straits - which has sent five delegations to Cuba since 2011. Additionally, guests will learn more about the League of Women Voters of the United States' Global Democracy initiative, which is focused on increasing the international voice in stressing transparency, accountability and good governance worldwide.

WHEN: Friday, May 11, 2012 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM 

   

WHY: To recognize and educate the public about the League's unique Sisters Across the Straits program, which aims to improve relations and build partnerships between the League of Women Voters and women's organizations in Cuba. The social and economic rewards of these relationships can be of mutual benefit and may lead to a better understanding between American and Cuban citizens.    
   
COST: $30 per person
