Milwaukee, WI - Remy Battery has been recognized by the Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program for its leadership in the advancement of alternative fuels and technology in the state of Wisconsin in 2013. Awards were presented at the Wisconsin Clean Cities annual stakeholders' meeting held in December at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The event celebrated the efforts and accomplishments of Remy Battery and other Wisconsin fleets in moving toward the use of alternative fuels and cleaner air for Wisconsin.
Remy Battery began converting its fleet of vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) in 2012 and expects to have its entire fleet fully
converted in the next one to two years. CNG is a readily available alternative to gasoline that is developed by compressing natural gas to less than one percent of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. It is drawn from domestically drilled natural gas wells or in conjunction with crude oil production. CNG can also be drawn from landfills and renewable sources, such as methane from farming operations.
"The decision to convert our fleet to CNG continues to pay off in big ways," share Mike Moeller, president of Remy Battery. "CNG costs 50 percent less than gasoline or diesel, which has dramatically reduced our fuel costs. It's also gentler on an engine, which has lowered our maintenance costs. More importantly, CNG emits up to 90 percent fewer emissions than gasoline, and there is an abundant supply of it
at our fingertips." He adds, "Remy Battery can be socially responsible and promote a sustainable future as an organization, while saving money and improving our bottom-line."
The Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program is administered jointly by the State of Wisconsin Energy Office and Wisconsin Clean Cities, part of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Clean Cities initiative. Clean Cities supports local decisions to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector through the use of alternative fuels, advanced technology vehicles and fuel economy measures.
Along with this recognition in 2013 by the Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program, Remy Battery is one of a small group of Wisconsin
companies selected to be part of the new Wisconsin Smart Fleet Program (www.wismartfleet.org) launched just last week. The new program provides businesses with a planning tool and outlines different options to help Wisconsin fleets meet their internal economic goals, while reducing their carbon footprint.
