OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM
HAWAII REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY
PRESIDENT ERIC S. RYAN
IN OPPOSITION TO APPOINTMENT
OF POLITICAL MEGADONOR
GLENN NOHARA TO THE
BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR HART
Everything about this rail project stinks. And now it stinks a lot more.
Today's appalling appointment of Democrat Party mega-donor
to the HART board is more proof that the heavy rail project is a self-serving financial scam controlled by Hawaii's Rail Cartel of politically-connected Democrats and affiliated special interest groups who drool at the prospect of profiting from this taxpayer funded mega-project.
Replacing political operator
to oversee this catastrophic public works blunder for the financial benefit of the construction industry and their puppet politicians will be a person who has personally funded nearly forty political campaigns for Democrats in Hawaii. Thus far, not a single media outlet has told its readers, viewers or listeners of this relevant fact.
The choice of Mr. Nohara to sit on the HART board is no coincidence. This decision is entirely political and designed for the sake of manipulating how rail is perceived by the public. Every reporter who honestly covers the HART bureaucracy knows that these insulated City employees working on the rail project don't turn to the HART board members for their respective industries' collective wisdom. This case is no different. The public is being misled and lulled into relief that a 'construction expert' has joined HART when the powerless HART board merely has one more person who excels in using money to influence the outcome of elections.
From day one, the HART board has been loaded with political movers and shakers with an interest in this project, while the HART bureaucracy has been stuffed with incompetent over-spenders with zero respect for the original budget.
Republicans in Hawaii demand that the public be informed by Hawaii's news media that Mr. Nohara is a Democrat Party mega-donor; NOT that he is some innocent bystander with a background in construction. The eternal reshuffling of Oahu's own Titanic deck chairs still concentrates HART's board with political junkies rather than objective professionals.
Search for "Glenn Nohara" under the searchable data for contributions to candidate committees and you'll find a long list of more than three dozen pro-rail Democrats. In addition, you'll also find Mr. Nohara listed under noncandidate committees as a donor to Go Rail Go and Calvin Say's PAC Citizens for Responsive Government.
To leave the impression with consumers of news that Mr. Nohara is just a random construction executive is extremely misleading. For this reason, HIRA hopes that you'll understand and act upon the importance of telling the whole truth in your stories.
