Austin was elected in April of 2012 to represent the 8th District on the Long Beach City Council.  The 8th District includes the communities of Bixby Knolls, Los Cerritos and North Long Beach.  Austin originally moved to Long Beach as an aerospace worker at McDonnell Douglas, where he worked for over a decade.  He currently serves as a professional staff representative for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

"I am supporting Tonia because she has the skills and experience necessary to be effective on the Water Replenishment District," said Austin.  "I am confident that Tonia will fight to ensure the WRD's decisions are transparent and in the interest of the ratepayers.  I look forward to working with Tonia to ensure we have an adequate supply of water at reasonable rates."

"I am excited to have Councilmember Austin's support," said Reyes Uranga.  "Councilmember Austin is an outstanding member of the Long Beach City Council and I look forward to working with him on creating solutions to solve problems as they pertain to water."

Reyes Uranga is running for the seat vacated by the passing of Board Member Lillian Kawasaki in 2013.  The WRD board made an appointment to fill the seat temporarily until the upcoming election which will be held on November 4, 2014.
